What is the digestive system and its functions?

Image result of the digestive system

The main function of the digestive system is to obtain food and liquids the
nutrients and energy that the body requires.
These include the mouth, pharynx (throat), esophagus, stomach, small
intestine, large intestine, rectum, and anus.
Next, I am going to explain the process that is carried out through the
digestive system so that our body obtains the necessary nutrients.

The digestive tract runs from the mouth to the anus. This tube is divided
into several parts, including the esophagus, stomach, small and large
intestine, which empties into the rectum to the anus.
The digestion process begins in the mouth, where the teeth are
responsible for grinding the ingested food and mixing it with the saliva to
form the food bolus, which goes down to the stomach, through the
esophagus.

Once in the stomach, the food is crushed, dissolved and partially digested
until leaving a solution of hydrochloric acid, enzymes and food particles,
called chyme.
The dissolution of food in the stomach, which has a capacity of one and a
half liters, occurs with the help of muscular movements that agitate the
bolus and also mix it with gastric juices. These juices are contained in the
stomach, by the cardia that communicates with the esophagus.
When food goes down, the cardia opens to let it pass, but the rest of the
time it prevents gastric acids from moving up the esophagus.
The chyme continues down the small intestine, seven meters of digestive
tract very folded into itself. The first part of the intestine, the duodenum,
serves to mix the chyme again with the juices from the pancreas and bile.
Finally, the increasingly diluted chyme reaches the large intestine.
Undigested food ends up in the rectum where it is expelled through the
anus.
