Abstract:

The COVID-19 pandemic has presented a massive global health and economic

crisis. The COVID-19 crisis has dramatically changed the prevailing economic and social

concepts around the globe. Karl Marx’s theory of Social Inequity from socio stratification is a

rhetoric that prevails when the difference in COVID -19 cases/ fatality is indicative of the divide

between the strata of social classes. Fundamental questions about the distribution of wealth and

benefits in society cause the prevalence of social injustice and individuals’ alienation from

society. Two issues were identified and thoroughly discussed: (1) The issue of the structural

deficits of a capitalistic society to protect the welfare of the most vulnerable from the health

risks, presented by the COVID-19 pandemic and the disparity in inequity of the socio-economic

impacts of COVID-19 to the different social strata’s in a global scale. (2) The remediation of a

neoliberalist-driven economy to dismantle the inequity of the different socio-economic classes

and provide a coping mechanism to the most vulnerable social classes.
