Food Waste in Our Country
We live in Burbank,
California. California is a
state in the United States of
America. The NRDC, the
Natural Resources Defense
Council, stated that the
United States invests lots of
its natural resources on
growing food. 50% of land
and 80% of freshwater in the
US is used for agriculture.
Despite this, 40% of food in
the US is wasted. 41 million

Food Waste at Our School
This is a picture of food that was wasted
from our students after one lunch. Our
teacher and her 6th grade class went
looking through the trash every day for a
week and they found lots of food waste. We
need to solve this problem because there
are some people in our city who don’t have
easy access to food. Meanwhile, at a single
school, we are throwing away food that
could be eaten by others.
Solutions to this Problem
One solution to this problem is we could
create a share table at our school. Kids
could put food that they don’t want on the
table. Then, volunteers could transport this
food to Burbank Temporary Aid Center.
BTAC is a place where people could go for
assistance, to eat, or shower. This table
could reduce the food waste at our school,
while helping others.

We asked Barbara Howell, the Executive Director of BTAC, some questions concerning this program.
