INTRODUCTION
Over lock stitch is created through sewing. It is utilized for woven and knitted cloth.
The over lock stitch machine also sews the side seam, armhole, sleeve, inseam, and
side seam of pants.

OBJECTIVE
 To learn about overlock sewing machine.
 To know about threading of overlock sewing machine.
 To get clear idea about how overlock sewing machine works.

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this lab is to understand the threading of Overlock sewing machines
that how thread pass through the parts of machine and how thread is passed through
various thread guides in overlock machine from which we can perform easily in
industry

MATERIAL/ EQUIPMENT
Lockstitch Machine
Thread

PROCEDURE
1. Turn off and Flip & Open Cover M/C
Ensure that the power switch on the machine is in the off position. To expose
the threading pathway loops and hooks, flip down the looper cover door,
which is located in the bottom left-hand corner of the machine's front.

2. Raise Machine’s Presser Foot

The presser foot is the metal object in the shape of a foot that holds the fabric
flat while you feed it through the sewing machine. To release tension from the
tension discs and make the machine simpler to thread, lift this foot up by
raising the lever beside it.

3. Turn the Handwheel & Set the Needles in Highest Position

Turn the machine's handwheel until the red line on the wheel meets the arrow
in the needle position display. This indicates that the machine's two needles
are positioned highest.
4. Place Selected Thread Spools on Thread Stand Spool Holders
Overlock machine's retractable thread stand is located at the back. In each of
the spool holders on the thread stand, place a spool of thread. Each spool's end
of thread should be inserted into the thread guide located at the top of the
thread stand.

5. Slip the Threads Through the Pre-Tension Guides & Tension Disk Grooves
As if you were sliding dental floss between your teeth, insert the end of each
thread into the corresponding pre-tension guide. Pull each thread into the
tension disc by guiding it through the grove in front of the pre-tension guide.

6. Pull Each Thread Through the Color-Coded Guides for That Spool
The most of overlock machines offer helpful color-coded diagrams and
colorful dots that indicate the proper passageways for each thread. Pass each
thread through the corresponding spool of thread's color-coded hooks and
loops as shown in this diagram.

7. Pass the Ends of the Threads Behind the Presser Foot

Pull the end of each thread underneath the presser foot and towards the
machine's back. After passing each thread through the final hole near the
presser foot, repeat the process for each thread.

8. Slide the Threads onto the Needles Using a Needle Threading Tool
Feed the end of the thread horizontally through the slit in the needle threading
tool. As soon as the thread's end is close to the needle's eye, slide the tool
down the needle's shaft. There are 2 needles on an overlock machine. If you’re
only using 2 spools of thread, you might only use 1 of the needles. If you’re
using 4 spools, you will need to thread both needles. The color-coded diagram
on your machine will show you which thread goes to which needle. If you are
only using 1 needle, remove the other needle. Otherwise, you can end up with
an ugly stitch.

9. Use Threading Tool’s Hook to Pull the Thread Through Eye of the Needle
Pull the threading tool carefully away from the needle. To complete threading
of overlock machine, grab the thread's end with the tool's hook and drag it
through the needle's eye.
THEORY
An overlock stitch is one that is used to sew over the edge of one or two pieces of
fabric for edging, hemming, or seaming. Overlock sewing machines are
distinguished from lockstitch sewing machines by the use of loopers fed by several
thread cones rather than a bobbin. Loopers are used to make thread loops that run
from the needle thread to the fabric's edges, containing the fabric's edges within the
seam.

DISCUSSION QUESTION
Q1) What is a 2 thread overlock m/c used for?
This stitch will cleanly finish off raw edges (and is especially beautiful on
lightweight or delicate fabrics) but isn’t very strong
Q2) What is a 3 thread overlock m/c used for?
3 Thread overlock stitch is a great choice for simple edge finishing or lightweight
fabrics.
Q3) What is 4 thread overlock machine?
A 4-thread overlock stitch is sewn with two needle threads which essentially sews
two rows of stitching in your fabric while the looper threads wrap the edge and it
used in over-edging cloths for fine finishing and protection from loosing when
sewed,
Q4) What are the applications of an overlock m/c?
An overlock sewing machine, or serger as it is commonly known, can trim, stitch,
and overcast seams as they sew. They can also be used for applications such as
inserting a zipper and creating beautiful decorations with certain stitches.

CONCLUSION
After completing this lab activity, we conclude that Overlock machines cannot be
utilized for usual purposes and also we learn how thread pass through the parts of
machine and how yarn is passed through various thread guides.
