Elements & Principles of Art Questions

LINE:
1. The lines make a shape and form there is a line between the person and the
horse, there are lines that also make up a quilt-like form with other forms inside.
2. They create connections between the many different forms and characters
presented in this piece.
3. Lines move me to the mouths which then lead me to the horse and the man
which then leads me to all the small details.

TEXTURE:
1. The smooth texture of the chandelier. The fuzziness of the fabric. The wrinkles in
the clothes. The soft texture of the carpet. The smoothness of the skin.
2. This artist used shading and line to make texture pop and appear in this artwork
3. You would find them everywhere in everyday life

COLOR:
1. The colors in this artwork contrast each other to make one side look warm and
dark and to make the other side light and cool
2. The colors in this artwork make me feel kinda at home as if I’m safe here, it
makes me feel warm and welcome.
3. This artist used warm and cool to balance out one another and to create a great
contrast.

VALUE:
1. Value is shown to show us how light affects certain areas just by where it's
placed and the shadows it creates, as well as the darkness it can leave behind.
2. This artist put emphasis on the table showing that's where the light is coming
from but there is also an emphasis on the two people in the dark showing how
shadows affect how we perceive things.
3. This artwork creates emotion showing us that things that are affected by light
have a deeper meaning and can have emotion behind the simplistic things.

SHAPE:
1. The artists uses squares, triangles, and circles to provide a sense of shape
2. This artist used shapes instead of forms to create something new and different.
This artist used shapes to add depth to this piece.
3. These shapes make up guitars, musical notes, and many other musical
instruments all made of shapes.
FORM:
1. This artist used form to make unique characters that would pop and that would
catch the eye
2. The forms remind me of animals such as birds dogs and others
3. I don't feel an emotion looking at this work but I guess I get a sense of childhood
with the bright colors and large animals

MOVEMENT:
1. This artist showed movement by the line of workers walking and slowly getting
smaller the farther away they are from view.
2. Line which leads our eyes from the bottom, along the path, and back. Perseptic
is used to show whether something is closer or farther from the eye.
3. Movement makes the emotion of sadness in this piece, it gives the element of
tiredness.

RYTHEM:
1. This artist used lines and color to create rhythm and mood in this simple piece.
2. This song would be somber and deep with a hint of happiness the colors give a
vibe that this is a happy song but it’s also deep and somber.
3. Rhythm creates a mood of heaviness and a possible happiness

SPACE:
1. The people get smaller as they get farther as they go on, there are a lot of people
to take up the SPACE, uhm there are people in the water and that's all I can see
2. They are larger than the people in the background.

COMPOSITION:
1. They used two very contrasting colors to create a beautiful contrast in mood and
element.
2. They contribute by adding both happiness and sadness in this piece, or maybe it
represents the good and bad.

PROPORTION:
1. They made one thing stand out more than the other
2. They wanted to catch the viewers eyes and to create something new and unique
3. It shows what the artists wants us to see as more important than the other things
shown in this piece

BALANCE
1. they used asymmetrical
2. It would look less balanced and less dark/ sad like
3. Probably because there's a lot of black and grey in this piece

CONTRAST:
1. They made some parts lighter and other parts darker bringing the eye to the
darker parts than to the lighter parts
2. They showed contrast through color to show us that one part was more sad and
dark than the other
3. It brings the mood of sadness and of worry

EMPHASIS:
1. The lighter part of the painting
2. They emphasized the people that are being shown on by the flashlight, by
making the other people darker this brings the eye to the lighter part than to the
darker part
3. This piece brings the feeling of fear, the feeling of being caught, the feeling of
worry/ panic
