I. Product Overview and Configuration

A. Product Overview
The Canon varioPRINT140/130/115 Series are Black & White (B&W) print
devices with DirectPress technology that enables the printing of high-quality
images consistently on a wide range of media. DirectPress technology
converts digital data into a toner image in a single step. This compact print
process offers a stable performance and quality without producing ozone or
toner waste and is unaffected by temperature, static or humidity.
The Canon varioPRINT 140/130/115 (varioPRINT 140 Series) is the
successor to the Canon varioPRINT 135/120/110 series and fits the light to
mid production market. The Canon varioPRINT 140 series is intended for:
• In-plant CRD facilities that need to maintain control over printing costs,
quality, and turnaround time.
• Commercial printers looking to expand their services and revenue
opportunities, while offering customers exceptional print quality.
• Print for Pay characterizes the core work of the Quick Print market as
defined by its typical document applications and outputs.
The models bring the following capabilities to end-users:
Note: For a detailed list of specifications and differences between the models
please refer to the specifications Section on the appendix.
• The varioPRINT 140, varioPRINT 130 and varioPRINT 115 are Segment
6 devices that prints and copies B&W sheets at speeds of up to 140 ipm
(images per minute), 130 ipm, and 115 ipm respectively. Additionally
Simplex speed is equal to the duplex speed 1.
• The Multi-Function Printer configuration includes the duplex color image
reader and automatic document feeder to copy and scan jobs.
• The printer only configuration of the varioPRINT 140/130/115 Series
device does not include an automatic document feeder. This
configuration includes a printer cover for the glass plate. Copy and scan
mode is not available
Note: the image reader is still present for service purposes and media
registration. Media registration is performed in the same way as on the
Multi-Function Printer configuration.
• Prints images with a resolution of up to 1200 dpi (dots per inch) x 1200
dpi with 200 gray (scales)
• A maximum paper size of 12" x 19.2” is supported from the main engine
and external Paper Input Module (ePIM).

1 Note that the full speed in simplex can be achieved with the ePIM and HCS3. Full speed simplex (= 140 ipm) is not possible
from the PFM and all finishers. This speed is defined for letter and A4 size Long Edge Feed and for <= 120 gsm (plain paper)
only. Productivity of other media does not change (with respect to weight and sizes) as compared to previous releases.

• Standard paper sources include four (4) paper drawers with a capacity of
up to 4,000-sheets. Optional paper input sources increase the paper
capacity to up to 8,600-sheets.
• The standard PRISMAsync Controller enables the end-user to define
media and color settings once and use them throughout the printing
process.
• The optional High Capacity Stacker-H1 includes support for third party
inline finishing and accessory equipment that expands the capabilities
and market potential for the varioPRINT 140 Series devices.
• Océ Remote Services and imageWARE Remote are Remote Services
systems, tools and best practices to help maximize efficiency, and reduce
labor costs.
• The varioPRINT 140/130/115 Series ships with PRISMAsync release 5.1
and includes the following capabilities:
• Realistic Preview – Provides a full preview of a job, including
impositioning and finishing, before it prints.
• Digital Moiré Reduction – Removes the moiré affect in prints that
contain detailed, high-resolution image patterns, such as on clothing
and billboards.
• DocBox – Storage location for folders to submit and edit.
• Extended Tag Bit Support – Improves the output and quality control on
job specific elements, such as text, graphics, and images.
• Print Stroke Width Adjustment – Enables operators to adjust the width
of text and line objects, for example, make them thicker. Operators do
not have to edit the original document.
• PDF Pre-RIP – Enables operators to have job information available
immediately after the reception of the job.
• Remote Printer Driver – A PDF-based driver, which receives its data
from the PRISMAsync controller directly. Therefore, if there is a
PRISMAsync upgrade, it upgrades the remote printer driver
automatically.
• Security Improvements – User authentication, audit logging, and access
from the control panel and Settings Editor to back-up and restore data.

IMPORTANT
Canon USA highly recommends that service technicians provide
administrators/operators with safety instructions using the "Important
Notification of Canon varioPRINT Series" sheet (See Appendix). The
notification sheet is included with the varioPRINT 140/130/115 Series and is

C. Monthly Copy Volume

1. The Optimum Performance Range

The optimum performance range is the volume range that the equipment
is intended to run on a regular basis to maintain a high-level of
performance and print/copy quality.
Running the equipment within this range ensures that no undue stress is
placed on components, and it allows time for the proper servicing and
maintenance of the equipment.

2. Maximum Monthly Copy/Print Volume

The maximum monthly copy/print volume is the maximum number of
pages the machine can produce within a one-month period (based on
letter size paper). However, the device should not be used to produce the
maximum number of pages, or a greater volume, on a consistent monthly
basis.
Sustained use of the machine at this level, will significantly impact the
long term performance and durability of the machine. You should expect
an increase in the number of service calls and down time during periods
of Maximum production use.

A. varioPRINT 140/130/115 Training
The Service and Maintenance Strategy, Page 27, for the varioPRINT
140/130/115 has been developed to reduce part and labor costs. Service
alerts on the Operator Panel identify the problem or part replacement
requirement. The corrective action for most problems is a part replacement.
The learning path for the varioPRINT 140/130/115 products has been
designed to align the service technician training with the Service and
Maintenance Strategy approach to make it successful. As a result, this
training program is different from previous Canon USA training as the service
technicians will have more hands-on labs and less lecture and theory.

VIII. Servicing Notes

A. Service and Maintenance Strategy
The service and maintenance strategy for the varioPRINT 140/130/115
devices is different from the strategies for most Canon imageRUNNER or
imagePRESS products. The service and maintenance strategy concept is
designed to reduce or eliminate service calls by the service technician to
provide the customer with maximum uptime and productivity while reducing
labor for the servicing dealer.
The service and maintenance strategy reduces or eliminates service calls by:
• Having fewer service parts to replace for the varioPRINT 140/130/115
main engine.
• The strategy is based on replacing parts, as the service is required
rather than a preventative maintenance strategy. Service alerts on the
Operator Panel identify a part replacement requirement or a problem.
The corrective action for most problems is a part replacement.
• Incorporating the POC (Printer Operation Care) program, the operator
partially maintains the varioPRINT. This reduces service calls by the
service technician and maximizes uptime for the customer.
• An On-board self-diagnostics supports the operator and/or service
technician in troubleshooting the machine to provide a corrective action.
This reduces the diagnostic time considerably by enabling the operator
and/or service technician to service the machine quickly and efficiently.
B. Pre-Installation Checklists
1. Connectivity Checklist
The Connectivity checklist is available to determine connectivity options
at the customer site and to define if a systems Engineer is required during
the installation process in addition to the Service Technician to manage
the installation. The Connectivity Checklist is available on the Canon USA
e-Support Center Website.
2. Implementation Checklist
The implementation checklist is available to collect information about the
customer’s environment for the varioPRINT target location to determine if
additional preparations are required for installation. The Implementation
Checklist is available on the Canon USA e-Support Center Website.

C. Safety

The Developer Frame of the varioPRINT Series emits a strong magnetic field
and is a danger to service technicians/system engineers with pacemakers.
Service technicians/system engineers with pacemakers are not allowed to
remove the Developer Frame, Drum Unit, Developer Roller, and Setup Unit or
to install or clean the Drum Unit.
Furthermore, when the Developer Frame is exposed, any individuals
(technicians, customers, walk up users, etc.) with pacemakers are not
allowed to be in the working area while the varioPRINT Series is being
serviced.
D. Media Handling Guidelines
1. The Specialty Media Handing Guidelines
The Specialty Media Handing Guidelines contain detailed information
about handling media on the varioPRINT 140/130/115 devices. The
Specialty Media Handing Guidelines document is available for download
from the Canon USA ISG Central Website.
The Media Guidelines information includes: Acceptable paper, Paper
specifications and Acceptable storage and print conditions.
2. The Acceptable Paper List
The Acceptable Paper List describes the paper types that can be used
with the varioPRINT 140/130/115 devices. The Acceptable Paper List
document is available for download from the Canon USA e-Support
Center Website and the ISG Central Website.
3. Preprinted Media Guidelines
The Preprinted Media Guidelines is a guide to ensure the optimal
performance of the varioPRINT 140/130/115 devices when using offset
preprinted media. The Preprinted Media Guidelines document is available
for download from the Canon USA e-Support Center Website and the ISG
Central Website.

CAUTION
If non-recommended ink or drying powder, not suitable for digital printing,
is used to create preprinted media, damage to important parts of the
printing system (including the drum 31) may occur, or the digital printing
performance can seriously deteriorate. This can result in increased
downtime and additional service costs.

E. Power and Plug Requirements

Canon USA strongly suggests dedicated and properly grounded outlets be
provided for the varioPRINT 140/130/115 devices.
The varioPRINT 140/130/115 Main Unit requires a single phase 208-240
V/20A NEMA 6-20R receptacle for proper operation. Before installation
confirm that the proper dedicated NEMA receptacles are available for these
devices.

NEMA 6-20 R NEMA 5-15R

IMPORTANT
• Main unit voltage tolerance is +6%/-10%
• We recommend an additional standard 120 V/15 A outlet for service
tools, such as a laptop computer or vacuum that may be used when
servicing or configuring the machine.
• Use only dedicated and properly grounded outlets for the main unit and
PRISMAsync Controller. It is also strongly suggested to use dedicated
and properly grounded outlets for each optional accessory. Do not use
extension cords. The ground connection serves to provide the internal
electronics with a reference voltage. Faulty or poor ground sources will
cause this reference voltage to fall into a range that no longer serves as a
reliable reference voltage. The internal logic and programming of the
varioPRINT 140/130/115 Series machines will not perform reliably
because there is an insufficient difference between the internal operating
signal voltages and the poor ground reference signal. A qualified
electrician can measure and provide the ground source that the
varioPRINT 140/130/115 Series machines or any computer controlled
office equipment requires.
• Before installation, confirm that all necessary receptacles are available
• Phase converters and step down transformers are not supported

G. Installation Space Requirements

The varioPRINT 140/130/115 Series approximate installation space
requirements may differ depending on how it is configured with the optional
accessories. Always ensure that there is enough space for service and
operation of the device.

IMPORTANT
1. Main engine Space Requirements
Rear Space
• Keep the back of the machine at least 31” (787 mm) away from a wall
• To accommodate customers with Limited Floor Space, keep the back of
the machine at least 18” (452 mm) away from a wall. This specification
is limited to the following configuration:
• The varioPRINT DP 140/130/115
• ePIM-D1
• Staple Finisher-W1 PRO or Booklet Finisher-W1 PRO
Note: To service the varioPRINT 140/130/115 in this configuration
an additional 15 minutes is required for service to accommodate
separating and moving the ePIM and Finisher from the
varioPRINT and then returning, reconnecting and leveling the
modules.
Front and Side Space
• Make sure at least 39” (1,000 mm) is available on the left side of the
machine (Finishers, Booklet Trimmers, accessories) for unrestricted
operation and proper servicing of the equipment
• Make sure at least 23.6” (600 mm) is available on the right side of the

K. PRISMAsync Controller Firmware
CAUTION
The parameters of the USB flash drive, used as the USB stick and USB Key,
are very specific, reference the USB Flash Drive Specifications (for the USB
Key and USB Stick) (Table 56). Using a USB flash drive that does not meet
these parameters may result in an error when backing up the system or an
error during firmware installation.
WARNING
The USB flash drives used to create a system backup and to install firmware
must not be used interchangeably. The preparation process to install firmware
requires that the USB flash drive be formatted. Any data on the USB flash
drive would be lost. This will include any system backup data.
1. PRISMAsync Controller System Backup
A USB flash drive (USB key) is included with the PRISMAsync controller.
The USB Key is available to save a backup of the PRISMAsync controller
system and licenses.
It is highly recommended that a service technician create a system
backup to the USB key after device installation, a major system change
or a system upgrade.
A service technician can restore the PRISMAsync controller system and
licenses after an upgrade or system failure. The USB key must be kept
with the varioPRINT Device.
2. PRISMAsync Controller Firmware Update via the USB Stick
A USB flash drive (USB stick), is available for purchase, to upgrade or

N. Hard Disk Drive Handling

The PRISMAsync Controller for the varioPRINT 140/130/115 Series uses a
HDD (Hard Disk Drive) for storage of the firmware and image data. The HDD
is easily affected by shock, vibration, and static charge. Therefore, its
handling requires special care. When transporting a HDD, available as a
service part, it must be kept in its original package until it is installed in a
machine
CAUTION
Canon USA or any of its affiliates or dealers are not liable for any
damages for loss of data received or stored on the hard disk, including
loss arising from lost opportunity to use such data, even if Canon is
informed of the possibility of such damages. Therefore, it is
recommended to not permanently store data on the HDD without having
secured copies or printouts of such data. (Review the terms of the
product's Limited Warranty for more details.)
O. Fuser Belt End of Life Detection
The varioPRINT includes an end of life detection for the Fuser Belt. A sheet
sensor, used to monitor the wear of the fuser belt, is enabled after the fuser
belt has reached 800,000 prints/copies (based on letter size). When the sheet
sensor detects that the fuser belt needs to be replaced, a maintenance icon
will appear on the Operator Panel. When clicked the customer operator is
instructed call for a service technician. The service technician replaces the
Fuser Belt as part of regular service. The customer can make approximately
15,000 additional prints/copies before the Fuser Belt end of life of has been
reached resulting in a total stop (error 6132).

IMPORTANT

P. Wax Mode Setting

the varioPRINT Wax Mode setting should be used if there are print quality
issues related to using Wax Paper (spotting, lines and smearing).
Wax Paper media is made moisture-proof through the application of wax.
Many types of media may contain wax. Wax paper in the varioPRINT can
become contaminated, which can lead to undesired print quality issues.
Enabling Wax Mode will clean the system automatically after printing. It is
advised to enable the 'Wax mode' only when you process wax paper or if
there are print quality issues related to using Wax Paper (spotting, lines and
smearing). Afterwards, the function should be disabled.
The varioPRINT has two (2) wax mode settings. Utilize wax mode '1' when
there are print quality issues with wax paper. Only select wax mode '2' when
wax mode '1' is not sufficient to solve the print quality issues. Wax mode '2'
requires a higher start-up temperature, which increases the start-up time of
the printer and requires more time for the decomposition of the wax.
The more Wax Mode is used while printing to wax paper, the longer the
printer needs to decompose the wax. For optimal performance of the Wax
Mode, do not print more than 50,000 sheets of wax paper at a time. However,
if more printing is needed, allow the printer to run in stand-by mode to
decompose the wax, or perform print jobs that do not require wax paper.
After processing wax paper, do not power off the machine manually or put the
machine into the sleep mode manually. Leave the printer in standby-mode to
allow the cleaning of the wax components. After maximum two (2) hours in
stand-by mode, the printer will switch to sleep mode automatically. If two (2)
hours are not enough to decompose all the wax, the machine will remain in
stand-by mode after the next job, until all the wax is cleaned.
When utilizing wax mode the TTF Drive Roller (Roller-Drive-Assembly-
Service, p/n 1060127357) must be replaced when replacing the Fuser Belt.

Q. Printer Operation Care

1. Overview
The Printer Operation Care (POC) program for the varioPRINT
140/130/115 products enables the customer to perform limited service on
the varioPRINT 140/130/115 products at the discretion of the servicing
dealer. In addition to changing toner, the end-user operator is able to
replace the separation feed rollers, heat exchange foil, and the spiral
cleaner as required based on the part life and service alerts displayed on
the Operator Panel. Canon USA, highly recommends utilizing the POC
program as a method to maintain machine uptime and reduce service
technician labor costs. See the Suggested Maintenance Agreement
Rates Section for details.
2. Program Benefits
The POC program provides an opportunity to increase customer
satisfaction with the varioPRINT 140/130/115 series by providing
customers with greater control over machine uptime and productivity.
Active maintenance by the customer benefits the service organization by
reducing work and travel time for the service technician. A reduction in
labor and travel will enable the service technician to focus on other
machines that may require greater attention and time.
3. Program Utilization
The varioPRINT 140/130/115 products are available configured with the
POC program or configured without the POC program (see Configuration,
page 3 for more details). The configurations available are:
• varioPRINT 140 with Printer Operation Care
• varioPRINT 130 with Printer Operation Care
• varioPRINT 115 with Printer Operation Care
• varioPRINT 140 without Printer Operation Care
• varioPRINT 130 without Printer Operation Care
• varioPRINT 115 without Printer Operation Care
a. varioPRINT Configured with the POC Program
If the servicing dealer and customer intend to utilize the POC
program then a varioPRINT 140/130/115 configured with the POC
program must be purchased. A customer purchasing a varioPRINT
140/130/115 configured with the POC program does not require
additional software, however, the customer must also order the POC
Kit-B1 (available for purchase) (see Table 33, page 56). The kit
contains an initial set of POC program parts and tools for the
customer. As part of the Service Maintenance Agreement, the
servicing dealer should provide additional parts.

Canon varioPRINT 140/130/115 Service Guide August 2017

Revision 4 Page 51
Canon Canon varioPRINT 140/130/115 Service Guide

Should the servicing dealer and/or customer choose to suspend

utilization of the POC program, either temporarily or permanently
(making the service technician responsible for all of the required
service), Canon USA recommends that the operator receive
instruction to contact the servicing dealer when POC Program
actions (excluding Standard Program Alerts) are required.
Additionally Canon USA recommends that the servicing dealer limit
operator access to Operator Replaceable Parts by restricting access
to parts stored at the customer site or removing the parts from the
customer site. With this option, the operator can resume the POC
program in the future with little difficulty.

CAUTION
Not utilizing the POC program will result in an increase to the number
of service visits by the service technician and higher labor costs. See
the Suggested Maintenance Agreement Section, Page 71 for details.
b. varioPRINT Configured without the POC Program
The varioPRINT 140/130/115 configured without the POC program
requires that the service technician will be responsible for all of the
required service. The proactive POC Program alerts and part
replacement instructions are concealed from the operator. Standard
alerts however will be displayed which will need action taken by the
Operator as part of corrective maintenance. See Standard Program
Alerts, Page 56 for details.

IMPORTANT
A varioPRINT configured without the POC program can have POC
program functions and alerts can enabled individually. (see Enabling
POC Program Functions Individually, page 57.)

CAUTION
Not utilizing the POC program may result in an increase to the
number of service visits by the service technician and higher labor
costs. See the Suggested Maintenance Agreement Section, Page 71
for details.
4. Training
The servicing dealer is responsible for the implementation and delivery of
training to the operator prior to starting the POC program. The Customer
Training Guide available from the Learning Management System on e-
Support contains information for the dealer to guide the customer in the
operation of the varioPRINT as well as the POC program service
responsibilities. The interactive user manual can be utilized as POC
training material.

8. Operator Replaceable Parts

Operator Replaceable Parts (the separation feed rollers, heat exchange
foil, spiral cleaner and flip rings) are service parts selected specifically for
the Operator to replace. The Operator Replaceable Parts may be stored
at the customer site for quick access and replenished regularly by the
servicing dealer based on the monthly print/copy volumes of the
varioPRINT 140/130/115.
Canon USA Operator Replaceable parts recommendations:
• Operator Replaceable Parts stored at the customer location should be
placed in a locked cabinet that only the service technician and the
operator have access to.
• All replaced parts should be retrieved by the servicing dealer to verify
that the part was in fact ready to be replaced and to properly dispose of
the parts.

11. Service Contract Considerations

The servicing dealer is responsible for the implementation of the POC
program. It is highly recommended that any Service Contract or Service
Contract amendments involving the POC program include the following
provisions:
• The customer must maintain an authorized operator(s) for all shifts
where the POC program will be implemented
• A locked storage location at the customer site for Operator Replaceable
Parts where only the operator and service technician should have
access.
• Training:
• Operator training fees at the discretion of the servicing dealer
• New operator Training
• Refresher training for the operator if performance is below a
satisfactory level
• Contact protocol between the Operator and the service technician
• Safety disclaimers to protect the dealer in the event an operator or an
unauthorized user is injured while servicing the machine
• Fees should the machine require extensive service due to the action (or
inaction) by the operator or an unauthorized operator
• Provisions to protect the servicing dealership by suspending or
canceling the POC program if the agreed provisions for operator
activity, parts usage, maintenance procedures and safety are not
adhered to (some examples are below):
• The operator not performing assigned maintenance properly or at
the recommended service intervals
• Damages to the machine due to unauthorized
maintenance/service
• The machine is maintained/serviced by anyone other than a
trained operator or the servicing dealer service technician
• Abuse to the machine(s)
• Abuse of the Operator Replaceable Part inventory (using new
parts prematurely or damaging parts).
• The Key Operator does not use parts supplied by the servicing
dealer (purchased from Canon Aftermarket)
• The customer cannot maintain an authorized operator

12. Operator Safety

Customer safety is of the highest priority and concern when using the
POC program. While performing service, safety guidelines are very
important to follow. Safety Guidelines cover three specific areas:
a. Personal Safety
Each Operator is ultimately responsible for his or her own personal
safety. To minimize personal risk of injury, the operator must follow
the guidelines below at all times while conducting operator
maintenance:
• Take notice of all posted Safety Labels outside and inside of the
machine.
• Follow all instructions when replacing parts.
• Always wear heat resistant gloves (included with the POC Kit-B1)
when replacing the Spiral Cleaner.
• Use correct lifting techniques. Use two (2) or more people to lift
weights of more than 50 lb (22.7 kg).
• Remove loose clothing and jewelry.
• Proper footwear is recommended when lifting equipment.
• Do not eat, drink or smoke near the equipment.
• Clean hands after contact with toner. Do not touch your eyes if
toner is on your hands.
• Do not wash or use hot water to remove toner from clothing.
Doing so can fuse the toner into the fabric. Quickly vacuum (using
an approved vacuum for toner pickup) or brush the affected
clothing with light strokes.
• Some surfaces are hot and require a wait time to allow the area to
cool before service.

Canon varioPRINT 140/130/115 Service Guide August 2017

Revision 4 Page 59
Canon Canon varioPRINT 140/130/115 Service Guide

b. Equipment Safety
When powering down the varioPRINT, Service Technicians or trained
Operators should always power off the system from the power button
located on the top of the varioPRINT near the base of the Operator
Panel.
When working inside the machine, take special care to:
• Avoid contact with sharp edges.
• Pay special attention when two or more persons are performing
maintenance on the varioPRINT.
• Make sure all personnel are clear when starting the machine.

IMPORTANT
• Canon USA highly recommends that service technicians provide
administrators/operators with safety instructions using the
"Important Notification of Canon varioPRINT Series" sheet (See
Appendix). The notification sheet is included with the varioPRINT
140/130/115 Series and is available in the Service Manual.
• Canon USA highly recommends that service technicians provide
administrators/operators with safety instructions using the
"Important Notification of High Capacity Stacker" sheet (See
Appendix). The notification sheet is included with the High
Capacity Stacker-H1 and is available in the Service Manual.
c. Tool Safety
Key Operators performing customer maintenance must be familiar
with the use of basic tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, clean
wipes, and cotton swabs. The following guidelines must be followed
at all times to minimize and prevent accidents:
• Keep tools clean and neatly stored when they are not in use.
• Discard broken tools. Do not use them.
• Prevent tools and parts from falling into the equipment.
• Use the correct tool to repair or adjust the equipment.
• Use the tool in the way it was intended to be used.

S. Environmental Conditions
When installing the varioPRINT 140/130/115 the environmental conditions of
the room should be as follows:

Table 36 – Environmental Conditions

Between 62.6°F (17°C) and 78.8°F (26°C) for print speeds
greater than 120 ipm
Optimum Temperature Range:
Between 62.6°F (17°C) and 82.4°F (28°C) for print speeds up
to 120 ipm
Optimum Humidity Range: Between 20% and 80% Relative Humidity
Atmospheric Pressure: Less than 1,000 m (3,280.8’) (898.7 hPa or 0.887 atm)
Noise (sound level): Standby: 47.3 dB; Operating: 75.3 dB
Ozone Emissions: None

Note: In certain areas of the country and during certain times of the year, it
may be necessary to use a humidifier or dehumidifier to attain the proper
humidity levels for optimal machine performance. There is a risk that
productivity, paper feeding, may be affected if the machine is operated
outside of these guidelines.
The machine should not be installed in locations with significant shifts in
temperature or humidity. Areas containing water, or equipment that can
significantly alter room temperature or humidity, such as a heater, stove, or
portable air conditioner, should be avoided, unless proper environmental
control is available to achieve maximum productivity or quality capability.
• Temperature and Humidity
The optimal humidity range for storing paper is 20% to 80% RH with a
room temperature of 62.6°F to 78.8°F (17°C to 26°C) for print speeds
greater than 120 ipm, or 62.6°F to 82.4°F (17°C to 28°C) for print speeds
up to 120 ipm. Storing paper in a location that does not meet these
specifications may affect paper feeding. For example, if the humidity is
too high, paper curling and paper jams will increase. If the humidity is too
low paper may shrink.
• Temperature Gradient
If a sudden temperature change occurs, may have an adverse effect on
image positioning. Sudden temperature changes may cause the paper to
bend or contract, cause the machine to malfunction, and form
condensation. Every effort should be made to maintain consistent
temperature and humidity levels in the operating environment at all times
for the varioPRINT.
• Ventilation
Ensure that there is an air exchange rate of at least once per hour, and at
least 1,236 ft3 (35 m3) of space in the location where the machine will be
installed.

• Elevation Limitation
Install this machine at an elevation below 3,280.8’ (1,000 m) (898.7 hPa).
• Lighting
Canon USA recommends installing the machine in a location with at least
500 lux of lighting 750 mm (29 ½”) above the floor for normal operations
and maintenance.
• Sunlight
Avoid installing the machine in direct sunlight. Direct sunlight has adverse
effects on toner consistency and image quality. If direct sunlight is
unavoidable, use curtains to shade the machine. Make sure that the
curtains do not block the machine’s ventilation slots or louvers, or
interfere with the electrical cord or power supply.
T. Consumables
Consumables are all products and materials that are consumed with regular
use and cannot be reused. Such consumables include but are not limited to
paper, chemicals and toner.
A number of factors are considered when the approximate yield expectancy
of a consumable is determined, including paper size and the amount of
coverage per page.
Note: All consumables shown in the below table are estimates for reference
purposes only and are subject to change without notice. Actual usage may
vary.

trained operator located at the customer facility to replace. The operator
replaceable parts may be stored at the customer site for quick access and
replenished regularly by the servicing dealer. The servicing dealer should
study the customer’s monthly print/copy volume of the varioPRINT
140/130/115 to determine the operator replaceable part inventories at the
customer site.
Below is a list of the operator replaceable service parts the operator would
replace at the appropriate intervals to maintain the image quality and
performance of the varioPRINT 140/130/115. Actual user experience may
vary.
Note: Service parts shown in the below table are for reference purposes only
and are subject to change without notice.

X. Soft Counter
The varioPRINT 140/130/115 series uses soft counters to track its functional
copy use. The operator panel can display up to six (6) counters in the
Maintenance Mode (when the Maintenance button on the operator panel is
pressed).
The Maintenance Mode screen shows two types of counters: Billing counters
and Day counters. Billing counters represent the total number of prints made
since the machine installation. The Day counters displays the same counters
as the Billing Counters, however, the day counters can be reset to zero (0).
The Day counters can be reset at any time (i.e., between jobs, daily or
between meter readings).
The table below indicates the default counter configurations of the
varioPRINT 140/130/115 series in maintenance mode. Refer to the Technical
Service Manual for complete details on the Soft Counter configurations.

X. Product Technical Support Offerings

Note: Please refer to the Technical Support Center on the e-Support Center
website for the most current policies and procedures.
A. Canon USA Technical Support Center
The Technical Support Center (TSC) is the single point of entry for all
technical support issues on BISG products. To ensure that every dealer
receives the highest level of support and help to resolve the end user’s
problems quickly and accurately, we recommend each service technician
become familiar with the Dealer Support requirements and Canon USA
support offerings.
Refer to the Tech Support tab of the e-Support Center website and review the
Technical Support Center Policies and Procedures as well as Contacts &
Tickets.

B. Technical Support Escalation

The TSC may, at its discretion, escalate a case to the Regional Field Support
Staff or Engineering group after all reasonable troubleshooting options have
been exhausted. For hardware-related issues a Designated Escalation
Specialist for the imagePRESS Series is required for an escalation to Field
Support Staff. The DES must have worked on the problem directly before a
TSC can escalate to Field Support Staff. See the Canon USA Support
Escalation Flow Chart in Figure 4 – Canon USA Support Escalation Flow.
Note: For support escalation to the Field Support Staff, a Designated
Escalation Specialist 44 must contact the TSC and visit the site at least once.

44 The Designated Escalation Specialist is a service technician assigned by the dealership in the model category of the
imagePRESS via the Management Center of the e-Support Web site. The Designated Escalation Specialist must complete the
training program and pass the final assessment exam for the imagePRESS C850/C750. See the Technical Support Center on
the e-Support Center Web site for more details.

materials under normal use and service, other than exterior defects, such as nicks, scratches, or dents, for 30 days after delivery to the
original purchaser of the Drum or use of it to make 160,000 prints or copies, whichever comes first (the “Warranty Period”). If the Drum
proves to be defective within this Warranty Period, Canon shall, at its sole option, replace it without charge.
Following the expiration of the Warranty Period and continuing for a period of one-year after delivery to the original purchaser of the
Drum or use of it to make a maximum of 3,000,000 prints or copies (or a combination of both), whichever comes first, Canon shall
provide a credit ("Credit") to the original purchaser toward the purchase of a replacement Drum if the Drum fails to operate under
normal use and service by reason of any defect in workmanship and materials, other than exterior defects, such as nicks, scratches, or
dents. The Credit shall be a percentage of Canon's then current dealer price for the replacement Drum determined as set forth in the
example below.
THIS WARRANTY IS IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES AND CONDITIONS, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ANY
IMPLIED WARRANTIES AND CONDITIONS REGARDING MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE,
RELATING TO THE USE OR PERFORMANCE OF THE DRUM. NO OTHER EXPRESS WARRANTY, CONDITION OR GUARANTY,
EXCEPT AS MENTIONED ABOVE, GIVEN BY ANY PERSON, FIRM OR CORPORATION WITH RESPECT TO THE DRUM SHALL
BIND CANON OR ANY AUTHORIZED SERVICE DEALER. NO WARRANTY IS GIVEN ON ANY USED DRUM.
THIS WARRANTY SHALL BE VOID AND OF NO FORCE AND EFFECT IF THE DRUM IS DAMAGED AS A RESULT OF (A) ABUSE,
NEGLECT, MISHANDLING, OR ALTERATION OF THE DRUM, A PRODUCT ACCESSORY OR A PRODUCT IN WHICH THE DRUM
IS INCORPORATED, ELECTRIC CURRENT FLUCTUATION, EXPOSURE TO LIGHT, OR ACCIDENT, (B) IMPROPER USE,
INCLUDING FAILURE TO FOLLOW OPERATING OR MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS IN, OR ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
PRESCRIBED IN, THE PRODUCTS OPERATOR'S MANUAL OR OTHER DOCUMENTATION, (C) INSTALLATION OR REPAIR BY
OTHER THAN SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES QUALIFIED BY CANON WHO ARE ACTING IN ACCORDANCE WITH CANON'S
SERVICE BULLETINS, OR (D) USE OF SUPPLIES OR PARTS (OTHER THAN THOSE DISTRIBUTED BY CANON) WHICH
DAMAGE THE DRUM OR CAUSE ABNORMALLY FREQUENT SERVICE CALLS OR SERVICE PROBLEMS. NOR DOES THIS
WARRANTY EXTEND TO ANY DRUM ON WHICH THE ORIGINAL IDENTIFICATION MARKS OR SERIAL NUMBERS HAVE BEEN
DEFACED, REMOVED, OR ALTERED.
NEITHER CANON, OCÉ NOR ANY CANON AUTHORIZED SERVICE DEALER SHALL BE LIABLE FOR PERSONAL INJURY OR
PROPERTY DAMAGE (UNLESS CAUSED SOLELY AND DIRECTLY BY THE NEGLIGENCE OF CANON, OCÉ OR ANY CANON
AUTHORIZED SERVICE DEALER), LOSS OF REVENUE OR PROFIT, FAILURE TO REALIZE SAVINGS OR OTHER BENEFITS,
EXPENDITURES FOR SUBSTITUTE EQUIPMENT OR SERVICES, LOSS OR CORRUPTION OF DATA, STORAGE CHARGES OR
OTHER SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES CAUSED BY THE USE, MISUSE OR INABILITY TO USE THE
DRUM, REGARDLESS OF THE LEGAL THEORY ON WHICH THE CLAIM IS BASED AND EVEN IF CANON, OCÉ OR ANY
AUTHORIZED SERVICE DEALER HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. NOR SHALL RECOVERY OF
ANY KIND AGAINST CANON, OCÉ OR ANY CANON AUTHORIZED SERVICE DEALER BE GREATER IN AMOUNT THAN THE
PURCHASE PRICE OF THE DRUM CAUSING THE ALLEGED DAMAGE. WITHOUT LIMITING THE FOREGOING, THE
PURCHASER ASSUMES ALL RISKS AND LIABILITY FOR LOSS, DAMAGE OR INJURY TO PERSONS AND PROPERTY OF THE
PURCHASER OR OTHERS ARISING OUT OF THE POSSESSION, USE, MISUSE, OR INABILITY TO USE ANY DRUM NOT
CAUSED SOLELY AND DIRECTLY BY THE NEGLIGENCE OF CANON, OCÉ OR ANY CANON AUTHORIZED SERVICE DEALER.
THIS WARRANTY SHALL NOT EXTEND TO ANYONE OTHER THAN THE ORIGINAL PURCHASER OF THE DRUM AND STATES
SUCH PURCHASER'S EXCLUSIVE REMEDY.

CONDITIONS OF WARRANTY
The defective Drum must be returned to Canon or an Authorized Service Dealer, with all necessary documentation (machine log, a
sample copy or other documents as required from time to time) to receive the Credit or replacement Drum. Credits will be based on the
then current dealer price of the replacement Drum, and will be pro-rated based on the prints or copies made, or a combination of both,
as described in the Example of Credit below.

EXAMPLE OF CREDIT
Drum inoperative after: 1,500,000 prints/copies in one-year or less after delivery to original purchaser.
Calculation of the Credit may be illustrated by the following example:

Calculation: 3,000,000 - 1,500,000 1,500,000
