25 RADIO TEACHER: You have been hearing the term OPM in many entertainment portals but are you aware of
26 its meaning? The acronym OPM stands for Original Pinoy Music which is a genre under Contemporary
27 Philippine Music. It was originally used to refer to Philippine pop songs, particularly ballads, such as those
28 popular after the collapse of its predecessor, the Manila Sound, in the late 1970s until the present
29 BIZ: MSC UP AND UNDER
30 RADIO TEACHER: OPM started in Manila where Tagalog and English are the dominant languages for
its texts.
31 However, other ethnolinguistic groups such as the Visayan, Bikol, Kapampangan, and Ilocano also
began to
32 sing and record their songs in their native dialects.

5 Rico Puno’s Luneta, a local adaptation of The Way We Were.
