The Senior Districts are a great opportunity for music students to audition and participate in music
making with many musicians from around Massachusetts. Audition information can be found at

Let your director know that you plan on auditioning by:
1. Turning in the form below, filled out.
2. Making a payment ($35 for one audition, $55 if you are doing two –
see rules). Make checks payable to “The Town of Brookline.” Please
let your director know if you need financial assistance; we don’t
want any student to not audition due to financial reasons.

Sat, November 19, 2022 Auditions at Milton HS. Bus leaves BHS at 9:00am and returns to BHS at
approximately 1:00pm

Wed, November 23, 2022 Money due for the District Festival registration for accepted students.
The Festival registration fee is $30. Make check payable to “The Town of
Brookline.” Students who are recommended for All-State auditions
should refer to the “All-State Dates” section below.

Fri & Sat, Jan. 6 & 7, 2023 Eastern District Senior Festival
Takes place the full day on both days at Boston Latin School. The
performance is on the afternoon of Saturday, January 7.

BHS All-State information sheet AND pay the All-State audition fee
(check for $30, payable to “The Town of Brookline”).

Sat, January 21, 2023 All-State Auditions @ Shrewsbury HS

Transportation is NOT provided.
Audition time: 1:45pm

Fri, January 27, 2023 Money due for participation in the All-State Festival

Fri–Sat, March 3-4, 2023 All-State Festival (Westford, MA & Symphony Hall)

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
● Students traveling to festivals and on overnight trips are to follow the same rules set forth in the
Brookline High School Handbook.
● Students are NOT ALLOWED TO DRIVE to the MassMEA festival audition or festival dates.
● Transportation is provided for travel to/from the audition site (Milton HS). No transportation is
provided for the festival itself, which is at the Boston Latin School.
● The BHS Music Department does not chaperone these festivals.

In order to participate in these auditions you must:

● be an active member of the BHS Music Program (Concert Band, Music Collective, Orchestra,
Chorus)
● be recommended by the director
● be able to perform the audition piece and perform it two weeks prior for director
● purchase the audition piece (no photocopies allowed at the audition – choral piece is provided)
● pay the audition fee
● pay all fees by the given date. A $20 late fee is charged by MassMEA per student (in addition to
the registration fee).
● if selected to be in an ensemble, pay the festival registration fee

FEES
There are two expenses involved with the Eastern District Festival: 1) the audition and 2) the festival.
1) Auditioning: The fee for auditioning is $35 (payable by check to “The Town of Brookline”). This fee
covers part of the cost of the bus to the audition site and the audition registration fee itself. If a student is
auditioning for more than one area, there is an extra $20 audition fee per additional audition. Note:
Students may only register for one audition unless they fall under the exceptions outlined below.
a) Percussionists may double/triple audition, i.e. snare, mallets and timpani. Each percussion
instrument must be designated on the online audition registration. Sr. and Jr. Jazz students
may register for a second instrumental ensemble audition. Separate audition fees are due
for each audition.
b) Piccolo, Eb Clarinet, Contra Bass Clarinet, and English Horn for both Junior and Senior
Festivals are considered secondary auditions, not double auditions, and thus are not
charged a second audition fee. The need for these instruments and any others will be
specified on the website each year.
2) Festival Participation: If selected to participate in the festival, there is a festival registration fee of $30.
