1. As a teacher, do you believe that the community of inquiry is an effective one?

Yes, because the Community of Inquiry (CoI) framework for teaching successful, interesting courses includes
a component called teaching presence. Cognitive presence and social presence are other factors. Designing,
facilitating, and guiding social and cognitive processes with the goal of achieving personally significant and
educationally valuable learning outcomes is what is referred to as "teaching presence" (Anderson, et al., 2001). It
may be a little more challenging to establish a teaching presence in an online setting because it basically refers to
how the instructor participates in and leads the class. This approach for teaching successful, engaging courses
includes social presence. Teaching presence and cognitive presence are further factors. According to Garrison
(2000), there are three kinds of social presence: emotional (affective) expression, where students share their own
opinions and values; open communication, where they learn to recognize and understand one another; and group
cohesion, where they develop and maintain a sense of commitment to the group. In other words, social presence
enables students to present themselves authentically while fostering a sense of community and belonging in the
online setting.

2. Explain the 4 phases of the general structure of implementing philosophy within the classroom, based on your
own understanding.

a. Perennialism - To educate what endures forever is to embrace perennialism in education. A perennial

curriculum concentrates on ideas that have remained constant throughout human history, much how
perennial plants endure for many years. For individuals with the knowledge, education should emphasize
literary classics, theory, and the growth of the intellect rather than contemporary practice and job skills.

b. Essentialism- Essentialism seeks to impart the most fundamental academic information, talents, and
character development on all students. Essentialists hold that educators should work to instill in their
students the traditional moral ideals and virtues—such as reverence for authority, tenacity, loyalty to duty,
care for others, and intellectual acumen—that they will need to grow into admirable citizens. The
fundamental subjects of arithmetic, physics, history, foreign languages, and literature form the basis of
essentialist curricula.
c. Progressivism- Individuality, advancement, and change, according to progressivists, are essential
components of education. Progressivists base their courses on the needs, experiences, interests, and skills of
their students since they think that this is how individuals learn best. Progressivist educators strive to make
learning engaging and worthwhile by designing lessons that pique students' interests. Students are engaged
in active learning in progressivist institutions. Through their interactions, the children learn social skills
including teamwork and tolerance for opposing viewpoints. Students also work through issues in the
classroom that are comparable to those they will face in daily life. Progressives think that education should

be a continuous process of personal development rather than only a means of preparing students for
adulthood.
d. Recontructivism - According to reconstructionist, reality is what the collective social Wisdom sees and
acknowledges what is real. They consider reality to be the cornerstone. for a deeper comprehension of
experience, which eventually helps us come to the truth knowledge. The public views knowledge as
something real. The idea of the experiences in a community can be evaluated using defendable partiality to
gain knowledge.

3. Why we need to study the philosophy of education?

Teachers function as mentors and actively encourage students to think independently. To do that as a teacher,
you must, however, establish your own philosophy of teaching. Since students look up to their teachers, it is important
for you to think of ways to motivate them. Here are some reasons why teachers might consider studying philosophy of
education. Teaching philosophy has been compared to a compass that shows the way forward. Without a map, one
could feel lost. In the same manner, if a particular course is not selected, you will be missed while teaching. As a result, a
map has always been required to make educated decisions. Students could be forced to study anything.

4. How do we define the importance of the philosophy of teaching?

A statement of your views regarding learning and teaching serves as the foundation of a teaching philosophy. It
explains how you adapt your instruction for various student cohorts and gives some ideas or techniques you may employ
in the classroom. After giving these matters some thought, you may remark on what you do, which is the most crucial
component of a teaching philosophy. Your teaching philosophy enables you to reflect on what you do in various
situations and plan how you could advance as a teacher in the future.

5. What behavior trend should one exhibit in order to carry out one’s philosophical position?

Authoritarian and non-authoritarian are two poles of a continuum, but they should be understood as more than just
"strict" or "permissive." Since it takes a more all-inclusive approach to facilitate learning, these words should go beyond
that particular feature. This indicator has been created to look at a broad picture of the learner and the subject matter.
Let's take an example where some instructors encourage their students to only view the content as a specialist in that
field might view it. As a result, we can claim that these educators promote convergent thinking, and in this sense, we can
refer to them as "authoritarian" educators.
