    The adapter plugs into the flashbar slot of a Polaroid SX-70 camera to allow connection of an electronic flash. It isolates the camera and flash electrically and signals the camera that a flash is present. This causes the camera to operate in flash mode, stopping down the aperture accordingly based on the focused distance like a flashbar would. Flashes that meet or exceed the power of a flashbar, with a guide number around 75 or Leitzahl of 25 at 125 ASA, should work with the adapter and trigger properly.

Inputandoutputareisolatedthroughanoptocouplersothere isnoelectricalconnectionbetweenthe cameraandtheflashside. Flashsyncvoltagecanbe3to300Vsoanyelectronicflashcanbetriggered. Theinnercontactofthepcplugmustbepositive,theouternegative. Howtousetheadapter: Inserttheadapterintothecamerawiththecomponentsfacingforward. Theadapterfitstightlyintotheslotwhichpreventsitfrombeingpulledouttooeasilybythecable. Ifyoufindittoohardtoinsertittrimtrim(round)thecornersofthecontactbladewithanailfileor sandpaper. Removetheadapterfromthecameraifyoudon'tusetheflash. Theadaptersetsthecameratoflashmode(focuseddistancefstopcoupling). WhenaflashadapterispresenttheSX70behavesasifaflashbarwasinserted. Theflashneedstohavesimilarpowerastheflashbars,whichisslightlymorethantheaverage photoflashprovides. Flashbarshaveafixedlightoutputthatreachestoadistanceofabout3meters(10feet). TheSX70exposurecontrolisbasedonthefocuseddistance. Thecamera'smaximalaperture(fstop)is8. Yourflashshouldhaveaguidenumberof75(9,5feet*8) orametricLeitzahlofca.25(2.9meters*8)at125ASA. Ifyoushoot600ASAfilminaSX70withoutaNDfilteryougain2stopsofflashpower. Notewhenyoushootcloseupsthacameraactsasifaflashbarwasonthecameraandstops downaccordingly. Thiscanleadtoverysmallfstops. TheSX70canbemodified(byremovingamechanicalpart)toalwaysopentheaperturetoF/8in flashmode.
