Sample Paper - 08 (2022-23)

Solution

Section A
1. (d) isosceles and similar

Explanation: In the given figure, O is the point of intersection of two chords AB and CD.

OB = OD and ∠ AOC = 45°

∠ B = ∠ D (Angles opposite to equal sides)

∠ A = ∠ D, ∠ C = ∠ B (Angles in the same segment)

and ∠ AOC = ∠ BOD = 45° each

△OAC ∼ △ODB (AAA axiom)

OA = OC (Sides opposite to equal angles)

△ OAC and △ODB are isosceles and similar.

2. (b) −

Explanation: Since α and β are the zeros of the quadratic polynomial p(x) 2

8. (c) median

Explanation: An ogive is used to determine how many data values lie above or below a particular value in a data set. In
other words, it is used to determine the Median of a grouped data.
9. (a) 3.5 cm

Explanation: By using angle bisector theore in △ABC, we have

AB BD

6−x

⇒ 10x = 84 − 14x

⇒ 24x = 84

⇒ x = 3.5

Hence, the correct answer is 3.5.

10. (a) a rational number

– – – –
Explanation: (1 + √2) + (1 - √2) = 1 + √2 + 1 - √2 = 1 + 1 = 2 And 2 is a rational number.

Therefore the given number is rational number.

11. (c) Real and Equal roots

Explanation: D = b2 - 4ac

D = (-20)2 - 4 ×  4 × 25

13. (a) Mode = 3 Median - 2 Mean

Explanation: A distribution in which the values of mean, median and mode coincide (i.e. mean = median = mode) is
known as a symmetrical distribution. Conversely, when values of mean, median and mode are not equal the distribution
is known as asymmetrical or skewed distribution. In moderately skewed or asymmetrical distribution a very important
relationship exists among these three measures of central tendency. In such distributions the distance between the mean
and median is about one-third of the distance between the mean and mode, as will be clear from the diagrams 1 and 2.
Karl Pearson expressed this relationship as:

Mode = mean - 3 [mean - median]

Mode = 3 median - 2 mean

Knowing any two values, the third can be computed.

15. (c) remains unchanged

Explanation:

Let height of the tower be h meters and distance of the point of observation from its foot be x meters and angle of
elevation be θ ∴tan θ = ………(i)
h

Now, new height = h + 10% of h = h + 10

100
h = 11h

10
And new distance = x + 10% of x = x + 10

100
x = 11x

10
11h

……….(ii)

10 h
∴tan θ = =
11x x
10

From eq. (i) and (ii), it is clear that the angle of elevation is same i.e., angle of elevation remains unchanged.
16. (a) 10 cm

Explanation: Let point of contact of tangent AB be P, point of contact of tangent BC be Q and point of contact of
tangent AC be R.

Since, Tangents from an external points are equal.

∴ BP = BQ = 3cm

PA = AR = 4 cm

⇒ CR = 11 - 4 = 7 cm

CR = QC = 7 cm

∴ BC = CQ + BQ = 7 + 3 = 10 cm

Section B
21. Let her actual marks be x

Therefore, 9 (x +10) = x2

i.e., x2 - 9x - 90 = 0

i.e., x2 - 15x + 6x - 90 = 0

i.e., x(x - 15) + 6(x -15) = 0

i.e., (x + 6) (x -15) = 0

Therefore, x = -6 or x = 15

Since x is the marks obtained, x ≠  -6. Therefore, x = 15.

So, Ajita got 15 marks in her mathematics test.

Since AB2 + BC2 = 18 + 72 = 90 = AC2

∴ ΔABC is right angled at B.

Hence the given points are the vertices of a right triangle.

Highest Common Factor of these positive integers.
We need to find H.C.F. of 155 and 1385.

By applying Euclid’s Division lemma, we have

1385 = 155 ×  8 + 145.

Since remainder ≠ 0, apply division lemma on divisor 155 and remainder 145

155 = 145 ×  1 + 10.

Since remainder ≠ 0 apply division lemma on divisor 145 and remainder 10

145 = 10 ×  14 + 5.

Let the length and breadth of the rectangular park be 'L' and 'B' respectively.

Case 1-

If the length and the breadth of the park is decreased by 2 m respectively, its area is decreased by 196 square meter.

Therefore, the area will be = (L × B) - 196

(L - 2) (B - 2) = L × B - 196

LB - 2B - 2L +4 = LB -196

- 2B - 2L = - 196 - 4

- 2B - 2L = - 200 ....(1)

Case 2-

If the length of the park is increased by 3 m and breadth is increased by 2 m, then its area is increased by 246 square
meter.

Therefore, the area will be = (L × B) + 246

(L + 3) (B + 2) = L × B + 246

LB + 3B + 2L +6 = LB + 246

3B + 2L = 246 - 6

3B + 2L = 240 ....(2)

Adding equation (1) and (2), we get, B = 40

Substituting the value B = 40 in equation (2), we get

3B + 2L = 240

3 × 40 + 2L = 240

120 + 2L = 240

2L = 240 - 120

2L = 120

L = 60

So, the length and breadth of the park is 60 m and 40 m respectively.

To prove: BC = BD

Proof: DC is tangent at C and, CB is chord at C.

Therefore, ∠DCB = ∠BAC [∠s in alternate segment of a circle]

⇒ ∠DCB = 30° …(i) [∵ ∠BAC = 30° (Given)]

AOB is diameter. [Given]

Therefore, ∠BCA = 90° [Angle in s semi circle]

Therefore, ∠ABC = 180° - 90° - 30° = 60°

In ΔBDC,

Exterior ∠B = ∠D + ∠BCD

⇒ 60° = ∠D + 30°

⇒ ∠D = 30° …(ii)

Therefore, ∠DCB = ∠D = 30° [From (i), (ii)]

⇒ BD = BC [∵ Sides opposite to equal angles are equal in a triangle]

Hence, proved.
