SCIENCE- IV
I. Objectives: at the end of the lesson, 80% of the pupils will be able to:
a) Identify the different body parts that used by the animals in getting and eating foods;
b) Value the importance of the different body parts of animals that used to get and eat their
foods and;
c) Illustrate the different body parts of an animals in getting and eating their foods.
A. Preparatory Activities
1. Drill
Naming and identifying the different kinds of animals shown in the picture.
2. Review
The teacher will ask the pupils to identify the habitat of the animals shown in the
pictures.
Land water
Recall the body parts and the uses of animals that live in water and on land.
B. Lesson proper
1. Motivation
Let the pupils count by itself into 5 groups. Ask them to pick the pictures and
complete them to complete the puzzle. Do this in 5 minutes only.
2. Presentation
Let the leader of the group explain and illustrate what puzzle they have completed
first and then after that, ask them what have they understood on the pictures. Ask
them more examples of body parts that are use in getting and eating food by the
animals.
3. Discussion
All animals need food. They use different mouthparts in eating different kind of food.
Carnivores or meat-eating animals such as, dogs, cats, tarsiers and crocodiles use
long, sharp and pointed teeth for tearing flesh. But cat uses its claws to catch food
and tarsiers use its hands in getting food.
Herbivores or plant-eating animals such as; carabaos, horses, cows, and goats use
their teeth for chewing grass.
Omnivores or meat-and-plant-eaters such as; pigs and monkeys use all shapes of
teeth for cutting, tearing, chewing and grinding food. Monkeys and tarsiers use their
hands and fingers in getting their foods.
Insects do not have teeth but they have mouthparts. Butterflies, mosquitos, bees, flies
have long tube-like mouthpart called proboscis that they use to suck juicy food like
nectar and fruit sap.
Birds use their beaks to eat food. But eagle uses both claws and beaks to eat food.
Squids uses their tentacles to catch food and they have their mouth to eat their food.
Other animals use their sticky tongue to catch foods such as frogs, lizards and
geckos.
4. Generalization
Animals have their own body parts that they use in getting and eating good for their survival.
These body parts depend on where habitat they belong to. These are the reason why we need
to value and give importance to the different body parts of the animals in getting and eating
their food. When we find there’s something wrong with the teeth of our cats or dogs, we need
to fix it as soon as possible in order for them to survive a little more.
Again, Cats, dogs and whales uses its pointed and sharp teeth to cut and tear foods. Cats uses
its claws to catch food.
Pigs and monkeys use their shaped teeth in order for them to eat food. Birds use its beak to
catch and eat food, others use its tentacles and sticky tongue.
5. Application
Pupils will be assigned to their recent group members for their next activity.
Group 1
Name the animal first and identify the body parts used by the animals in getting and eating
foods.
EXAMPLE: COW
Make a prayer showing the importance of the different body parts of animals that used to get
and eat their foods
Group 3
Illustrate the different body parts of an animals in getting and eating their foods.

2. Beak of a bird
5. Hands of a monkey.
