Flash Card Printing Tips

Because so many different printers exist in the marketplace, we cannot offer specific instructions for
printing flashcards out on your printer. We do, however, have a number of tips that will help you print your
cards out more easily.
There are two methods of printing: duplex (double-sided) and tried-and-true. If you are not on good terms
with your printer, we suggest you use the tried-and-true method to keep your life a little more sane.

Duplex
Many printers that don’t duplex can actually print “double-sided” if you can follow their instructions. This is
called manual duplex.

Materials
• Heavier paper (i.e. cardstock) that works in your printer
• Working knowledge of your printer or printer instructions
• Scissors

Settings
• For printers that print two-sided
o Access your printer properties/options in the Print window.
o Choose “both sides” or “two-sided “ then
o Choose short side, flip on short edge, or something like that for your Duplex option.

• For Manual Duplex only (Printers that print two-sided but you have to flip the page):
o Pay attention to which side of your printer the top of the flashcards print (i.e. it points to
the right or left side of the printer). Make sure that you point the top to the same side
when you flip it over to print the other side. Your printer may have a diagram to show you
how to reinsert the paper.
o Troubles? Do one page at a time. Look at the PDF to make sure you have the right answers
for the right questions.
Tried-and-True
This is simple and works with any printer..

Materials
• Normal or heavier paper
• Glue stick (recommended), glue, tape, or staples to put paper together
• Scissors

General Instructions
1. Print all pages out.
2. Separate the pages into 2 page sets (i.e. questions and answers together.) Look at the PDF if the
pages get mixed up.
3. For each set:
a. Put the pages front to back. Make sure they are oriented so that correct answer is directly
behind its question.
b. Glue/tape/staple the pages together. Make sure not to tape or staple on the dashed lines.
c. Cut the cards apart.
