Calculate the molar concentration of solutions of sodium bicarbonate (5g of nahco3 in 60ml

of water), sodium hydroxide (2g of naoh in 60ml of water) and citric acid (30g of c₆h₈o₇ in
60ml of water )

Molar mass
Carbon: 12.010 g / mol
Hydrogen: 1.00784 g / mol
Sodium: 22.989769 g / mol
Oxygen: 15.999 g / mol

Can you predict the pH of each solution?

What you need
5 cups
Water
Sodium bicarbonate solution
Sodium hydroxide solution
Citric acid solution
Acetic acid solution
Colored indicator

Procedure
prepare the following solutions

 solutions of sodium bicarbonate (10g of nahco3 in 100ml of water),

 sodium hydroxide (4g of naoh in 100ml of water) and

 citric acid (50g of c₆h₈o₇ in 100ml of water )

Start by taking 5 plastic cups, number them from 1 to 6

 Fill glass 1 with water
 Fill glass 2 with the baking soda solution
 Fill glass 3 with the citric acid solution
 Fill glass 4 with the acetic acid solution
 Fill glass 5 with the sodium hydroxide solution

Add a few drops of the colored indicator to each of the glasses and record your
observations.

Why do you think the color change is happening? and what is the type of this reaction?

determine the ph of different solutions knows their concentration

what's the mole?

a standard scientific unit for measuring

large quantities of very small entities such
as atoms, molecules, or other specified
particles.

what's Avogadro’s Number?

Avogadro’s number is a similar concept to

that of a dozen or a gross. A dozen
molecules is 12 molecules. A gross of
molecules is 144 molecules. Avogadro’s
number is 6.022×1023 molecules.

what's the Molar Mass ?

The molar mass of a particular substance is
the mass of one mole of that substance.

what's the Molar Mass of a Compound

In a compound of NaOH, the molar mass of

Na alone is 23 g/mol, the molar mass of O is
16 g/mol, and H is 1 g/mol. The molar mass
of the compound NaOH is 40 g/mol.
