Code-switching and code-mixing are common practices for people who speak more than one
language or dialect. When someone utilizes a term or phrase from one language in another, this is
known as code mixing. And code switching occurs when the language is structurally and grammatically
organised in another language. Nonetheless, multiple investigations and research on Code-Switching
and Code-Mixing in various areas have been undertaken by experts; some of these works are utilized as
references, as well as comparisons and similarities, for future study on the same issue.

The first study (2020) was conducted by Silaban, Marpaung with published studies An Analysis
of Code-Mixing and Code-Switching used by Indonesia Lawyers Club on TV One . in their study, the
authors aims to find out kinds of code-mixing and code-switching, the dominant kinds of code-mixing
and code-switching and also the factors code-mixing and code-switching used by Indonesia Lawyers Club
on TV One. Silaban and Marpaung (2020) states Code-switching and code-mixing phenomenon has
become a trend or style of speaking in society, especially among youth people. This change of style
language also studied in sociolinguistic. The results concluded that the factors utilized code-mixing and
code-switching in Talk Show Program on TV One is because of the condition of educated people who
were there and required the use of code-mixing and code-switching in improving the prestige of
speaking and from the backdrop of diverse culture and different environment, the speaker feels free and
more comfortable to express his/her emosional.

The second study (2015) was conducted by Yuliana, Luziana, and Sarwendah with published
study, Code-Mixing and Code-Switching of Indonesian Celebrities: A Comparative Study. Yuliana, Luziana,
and Sarwendah (2015) states that the use of code-switching and code-mixing frequently occur in
conversations of bilingual speakers and they may arise at the same time but they are often
used in a different context. The findings revealed that celebrities with native speaker parents or those
who could speak more than one language fluently utilized code-mixing and code-switching at varying
frequencies. It was also demonstrated that celebrities who were bilingual or multilingual were more
active than those whose parents were from English-speaking countries.
