TYPES OF WASTE

Definitions

Effects to People's Health and Environment

Liquid Waste

Liquid waste can be defined as such liquids as wastewater, fats, oils or gases, used oil, liquids, solid,
gases, or sludge’s and hazardous household liquids. This liquids that are hazardous or potentially
harmful to human health or the environment. Liquid waste is any form of liquid residue that is
hazardous for people or the environment. These wastes contributes to the destruction of the
environment which resorts to a lot of possible disease and illnesses a person can possess. Lets expand
our knowledge more about the effects this time.

Poor waste collection leads to environmental and pollution and can block water drains. Resulting
flooding and other standing waters in waste items favour cholera and vector – borne disease such as
malaria and dengue.

Solid Waste

Solid waste is the unwanted or useless solid materials generated from human activities in residential,
industrial or commercial areas. Solid waste are any discarded or abandoned materials. Solid waste can
be solid, liquid, semi solid or containerized gaseous material.

Can contaminate land and pollute water. It can harbour bacteria, such as those responsible for diarrhea,
cholera, dysentry, typhoid, hepatitis, and polio.

Organic Waste

Organic waste is any material that is biodegradable and comes from either animals or an plant.
Biodegradable waste includes any organic matter in waste which can be broken

down into carbon dioxide , water , methane or simple organic molecules.

n cause serious environmental and health issues. It generates unpleasant odor and helps rats, flies, bugs,
and mosquitoes multiply and spread disease. As it decomposes organic waste generates methane, a gas
that contributes significantly to global warming.

Recyclable Waste

Recycling is the process of converting waste materials into new materials and object. Recyclable
materials include many kinds of glass, paper, cardboard, metal, plastic, tires, textiles, batteries, and
electronics.
Reduces the need for raw materials and hence, preserve the rainforest. Harmful chemicals and
greenhouse gasses emitted from waste in the landfills hrm the environment. Recycling helps to reduce
the pollution caused by waste. When products are made from raw materials, large amounts of energy
are used.

Hazardous Waste

A hazardous waste is a waste with properties that make a dangerous or capable of having a harmful
effect on human health on the environment.

Some example of hazardous waste you may found around your house include: antifreeze, batteries,
brake fluid, chemicals strippers

Impacts on the environmental can be just as devastating; killing organism in a lake or river, destroying
animals and plants in a contaminated area, causing major reproductive complications in animals, or
otherwise limit the ability of an ecosystem to survive. In some causes, hazardous substances irritate the
skin or eyes, make it difficult to breath, cause headaches and nausea, or result in other types of illness.
