Pink Floyd is a British rock band that,through their distinct and revolutionary style, has managed to

be one of the most influential musical acts over the last seven decades. The group has realeased
sixteen studio albums in forty-seven years, sold over two hundred and fifty million copies and
continues to sell. Their 1977 album “Animals” surged back onto Billboard’s album charts selling
twenty thousand copies in the week ending September 22 2022, just in the United States of America.

The group had an intersting beginning, although Roger Keith Barrett also known as Syd Barrett was
not a member of the group from the beginning, in his highschool years he was playing guitar with
David Gilmour and in the same period of time he was hanging out with Storm Thorgerson. Storm is
another important name in the history of Pink Floyd, he was the one who designed most of the
album covers. Syd joined the band of students from the Polytechnic Institute of Architecture of
London, to replace a singer named Chris Dennis. Back then the group was called “The Tea Set”.
Although it was a students band, it had moderate success, establishing itself as one of the best
underground band in London in the late sixties. When they discovered that the name “The Tea Set”
was already used by another group they decided to change their name. Barret proposed “The Pink
Floyd Sound”, created from the merge of the names of two famous bluesmen: Pink Anderson and
Floyd “Dipper Boy” Council. The word ‘sound’ was quicly removed from the band’s name and they
became “The Pink Floyd”.
