Unit 4

Dear Parent/Caregiver,

Your child is about to start Unit 4 of their English coursebook American Tiger 1.

In this unit your child will learn to identify different foods and talk about whether they come from plants or
animals. They will also learn to read and write these words. They will also identify numbers 1 to 20. They
will listen to the unit story Dinner Time and the cartoon story with Ping and Pong. They will also sing and
act out the songs I don’t like sausages and Bananas are fruit, and say Tiger’s word chant. In addition, your
child will sing a song Ten fat sausages and will identify healthy snacks some children eat. Pronunciation
practice of the sound ‘ee’ and ‘ea’ will be provided through fun activities and tongue twisters. Finally, the
children will complete their American Tiger Progress Journal.

I don’t like sausages Ten fat sausages

I don’t like sausages, I don’t like peas. Ten fat sausages cooking in a pan.
Oh, can I have an omelette, please? Ten fat sausages cooking in a pan.
One goes pop and another goes bang.
Do you like mushrooms? Yes, I do. Eight fat sausages cooking in a pan.
Put some mushrooms in the omelette, too!
Eight fat sausages cooking in a pan.
Do you like cheese? Yes, I do. Eight fat sausages cooking in a pan.
Put some cheese in the omelette, too! One goes pop and another goes bang.
Six fat sausages cooking in a pan.
Do you like potatoes? Yes, I do.
Put potatoes in the omelette, too! Six fat sausages …

It’s nearly ready – one, two, three! Four fat sausages …

Oh dear! Splat! No omelette for me!
Two fat sausages cooking in a pan.
I don’t like sausages, I don’t like peas. Two fat sausages cooking in a pan.
Oh, can I have a pizza, please? One goes pop and another goes bang.
No fat sausages cooking in a pan.

The songs, together with some fun vocabulary activities, are included in the Student’s Practice Kit (access
code in the front of the Student’s Book). Please take the time to look at this online material with your child.

Thank you for your support in making your child’s English learning experience as successful and as
valuable as possible.

Best wishes,

English Class Teacher
