Part 1 – General questions

The questions pertain to ‘general knowledge’ of concepts that were taught.

1. Regarding the mini case: why is Efeomo’s data deemed secondary insofar as
your work at Sandaryam & Herbs Inc.? (1 mark)
As the data gathered by Efeomo is from other sources and not first-hand data, hence
it is deemed as secondary data.
2. Regarding p-values:

a. What is the conventional value of α? (1 mark)

Conventional value of Alpha is 0.05

b. Why is this value given? (1 mark)

This value is given because it is a consensus. There is no history other than

this being a consensus.

c. are there instances where α is different from the conventional value? If

yes, what would the other value(s) be? (1 mark)
The alpha value sometimes we can choose a cut off of 10% or 1% and that
is when the Alpha value is different.
3. From time immemorial, has it always been the case that knowledge is created
through the scientific method? (1 mark)
Knowledge was probably acquired and disseminated before the scientific method in
a disorganized and maybe biased manner. The processes by which scientists
arrived at their findings were defective, and many scientific views were wrong.
Scientists introduced ideas, developed theories, or generated hypotheses that
suggested connections or patterns in nature that could be tested against
observations or measurements
