writer. It is known for the free use of language in different forms and styles.

For a very long time, Filipinos have been identified as artistic and great poets because of their contributions of many beautiful poems.
This evening, we will be witnessing some seminarians of the Sacred Heart Seminary as they present their best compositions.

Seminarians are expected not just to become holy and live a life patterned to the life of Christ but also to be artistic and intelligent in
many areas and fields. Their intelligence and artistry are their armours to which they can bring with them whenever they become
priests in the near future. An intelligent mind can speak words that move people’s hearts.

The second part of our competition is composed of the Siday, Spoken Poetry and Extemporaneous Speaking.

May we read to you the Mechanics of these last three competitions.

(READ MECHANICS)

Wil: Siday is the Binisaya equivalent of English poetry. Warays are indeed poetic in nature in a sense that they can create
compositions with rhythmic lines and patterned lyrics through the use of their vernacular dialect.
Tara aton tan-awon
Balikon an nawara nga hinumduman naton
Updi ako paglingi, pag-duaw bisan la maguti
Tagi ako hin oras, alayon la pamati.
Tara aton balikon
Mga panahon nga hi ikaw akon
Nga hi ikaw pa an akon kalibutan
Kalibutan nga yana imo na ginkalimtan.

Jappi: Spoken Poetry is a broad designation for poetry intended for performance. Its genre traces its roots in oral traditions and local
performances. It may contain elements of rap, story –telling, theatre, jazz or folk music to make the poem more artistic. Related to
slam poetry, Spoken words may draw on tone, rap, dance and gestures to connect more to the audiences.

Ating pakinggan ang makabag-damdaming mga komposisyon na bunga ng makukulay na isip ng mga makatang mag-aaral ng Sacred
Heart Seminary.

Wil: The talent to speak extemporaneously is a challenge of the mind and of the ability to speak before many persons without a
lengthy preparation. This is much needed so that the people might be able to develop the skill that will help them not only in the
present, but in the future as well. Seminarians who are training to become priests must be ready in such challenges to proclaim the
message of God’s salvation for all. Now, for the last competition this evening.
