Biografi Queen Elizabeth II

Queen Elizabeth II was born with the full name Elizabeth Alexandra Mary in London on
April 21, 1926. When she was born, she received the title Her Royal Highness Princess
Elizabeth of York or Her Royal Highness Princess Elizabeth of York. Elizabeth is the eldest
daughter of King George VI and Empress Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon.

When Elizabeth was born, her father was still the Prince Albert Duke of York or Duke of
York. His father was King George V's second child with his wife, Queen Mary. Elizabeth II's
mother was the youngest daughter of Claude Bowes-Lyon, a Scottish aristocrat. Little Elizabeth
has the nickname Lilibet. She is also known as the favorite granddaughter of King George V.
Since childhood, Elizabeth is known as a cheerful, intelligent, and wise girl. Elizabeth has a
sister who is four years younger than Princess Margaret. As grandsons of the king, Elizabeth
and Margaret had forged private education from an early age. They studied history, language
and literature, and music under the tutelage of their mother and a nanny named Marion
Crawford or Crawfie. During World War II, for the sake of safety, Elizabeth and her sister had
to live far away from their parents. They spent most of their childhood at Balmoral Castle in
Scotland as well as at the Royal Lodge and Windsor Castle.

Became crown princess


When King George V died in 1936, Elizabeth II was second in line to the British throne. At
that time, his uncle, Edward III ascended the throne as King of England as the successor to
George V. However, Edward III's tenure did not last long. He stepped down from the throne in
the same year because he decided to marry a widow named Wallis Simpson. At that time, the
British Empire implemented a rule that a king could not marry a widow. The abdication of
Edward III also made way for Elizabeth's father, Prince Albert, to ascend the throne. Prince
Albert then succeeded the throne of the United Kingdom and was titled King George VI. With
the crowning of her father as king, Elizabeth became crown princess at the age of 10 years. He
received the title Her Royal Highness The Princess Elizabeth and officially became the heir to
the throne of the United Kingdom.

Elizabeth's wedding
In July 1939, Elizabeth met Prince Philip for the first time and fell in love immediately. They
met when Elizabeth followed her parents on a visit to the British Royal Naval College. After
falling in love at first sight, Elizabeth then wrote letters to Prince Philip for several years. In
1946, Prince Philip returned from his duties in the Pacific War, then ventured before King
George VI to ask permission to marry Elizabeth. However, King George did not immediately
agree to the proposal. The king asked Prince Philip to wait until Elizabeth was 21 years old to
marry. After waiting for a year, Elizabeth and Prince Philip officially announced their
engagement on July 9, 1947. Not long after, Elizabeth and Prince Philip's wedding was held at
Westminster Abbey on November 20, 1947. King George VI gave the title Duke of Edinburgh
or Duke of Edinburgh to Prince Philip. Meanwhile, Elizabeth received the title of Duchess of
Edinburgh. From her marriage to Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth II was blessed with four
children, namely King Charles III, Princess Royal Anne, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and
Prince Edward.

Reigns In the summer


of 1951, King George VI's health began to decline. At that time, Elizabeth had begun to
represent her father's state duties on visits to various countries. In October 1951, Elizabeth
and Prince Philip visited Canada and Washington. After that, they were also scheduled to visit
Australia and New Zealand and only departed in January 1952. However, when they arrived in
Kenya on February 6, 1952, Elizabeth received the sad news of her father's death. At that
time, Elizabeth officially became Queen of England, succeeding her father's throne. However,
the coronation ceremony of Queen Elizabeth II was only held on June 2, 1953. Elizabeth
became queen of the constitutional monarchy of the 16 sovereign states known as the
Commonwealth of Nations and head of the 54 members of the Commonwealth of Nations.
Apart from being Queen of Great Britain, Elizabeth is also the Grand Governor of the Church
of England. During her reign, Queen Elizabeth II implemented the rules of modern monarchy.

70 years in power, Queen Elizabeth II's throne will end when she passes away on September 8,
2022.
