Biografi Queen Elizabeth II
Queen Elizabeth II was born with the full name Elizabeth Alexandra Mary in London on
April 21, 1926. When she was born, she received the title Her Royal Highness Princess
Elizabeth of York or Her Royal Highness Princess Elizabeth of York. Elizabeth is the eldest
daughter of King George VI and Empress Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon.
When Elizabeth was born, her father was still the Prince Albert Duke of York or Duke of
York. His father was King George V's second child with his wife, Queen Mary. Elizabeth II's
mother was the youngest daughter of Claude Bowes-Lyon, a Scottish aristocrat. Little Elizabeth
has the nickname Lilibet. She is also known as the favorite granddaughter of King George V.
Since childhood, Elizabeth is known as a cheerful, intelligent, and wise girl. Elizabeth has a
sister who is four years younger than Princess Margaret. As grandsons of the king, Elizabeth
and Margaret had forged private education from an early age. They studied history, language
and literature, and music under the tutelage of their mother and a nanny named Marion
Crawford or Crawfie. During World War II, for the sake of safety, Elizabeth and her sister had
to live far away from their parents. They spent most of their childhood at Balmoral Castle in
Scotland as well as at the Royal Lodge and Windsor Castle.
Elizabeth's wedding
In July 1939, Elizabeth met Prince Philip for the first time and fell in love immediately. They
met when Elizabeth followed her parents on a visit to the British Royal Naval College. After
falling in love at first sight, Elizabeth then wrote letters to Prince Philip for several years. In
1946, Prince Philip returned from his duties in the Pacific War, then ventured before King
George VI to ask permission to marry Elizabeth. However, King George did not immediately
agree to the proposal. The king asked Prince Philip to wait until Elizabeth was 21 years old to
marry. After waiting for a year, Elizabeth and Prince Philip officially announced their
engagement on July 9, 1947. Not long after, Elizabeth and Prince Philip's wedding was held at
Westminster Abbey on November 20, 1947. King George VI gave the title Duke of Edinburgh
or Duke of Edinburgh to Prince Philip. Meanwhile, Elizabeth received the title of Duchess of
Edinburgh. From her marriage to Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth II was blessed with four
children, namely King Charles III, Princess Royal Anne, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and
Prince Edward.
