Executive Summary
Nyota Women Group is a Local Group located in Kisa West Location, Dudi Central Sub
Location – Khwisero Sub County in Usiembi Village. It’s a local Community development
initiative with a stimulus of enhancing the motto of Improved Nutrition and sustainable farming
through indigenous crop farming practices, through this the group would like to implement boost
an Orange Flesh Potatoe Farming – a . An initiative towards suitable management of hunger and
increased economic viability of local household.
After in depth deliberations, discussions and suggestions. Nyota Women Group has appraised
Sweet Potatoe farming as an alternative economic crop targeting Orange Flesh Potate (OFSP
Abode Vitaa, Kensport 4) which has a bigger market potential and can make the project realize
most of its dreams/visions. This project would also require limited time of implementation and
would receive great support from group members
Westen Kenya is known for its indigenous crop varieties and a source of income to most
families. Crops like Orange Flesh Potatoes poses huge economic benefits the community
members have realized. Orange flesh possess the following benefits and can be used for Mandazi
Crackies, Onion Bites, Salad, Juice, Chapatis e.t.c.
Vision
Objectives
• Increased high yield in orange flesh potatoes production within Kisa West
Location.
• Enhanced food security and income generation within the locality.
• Developing local farmers’ skills in orange flesh production through use of
organic and inorganic manure for better farming results.
• Successful implementation of the orange flesh production and value addition
Specific Objectives
• Hire and utilize five acres of Orange Flesh within Kisa West and Dudi Sub
Locations.
• Involve 15 members in orange flesh potatoe farming through use of new
methodologies – inclusive of organic and in organic manure with belief that
these new skills will be ratified by several farmers of Kisa West Ward
• Initiate local income generation through orange flesh farming, value addition
and production.
Target Group
The Target Group is 15 members of Nyota Women Group and the neighbouring farmers within
Kisa West Location.
Nyota Women Group plans to hire and utilize five acres of farm plot within Dudi Sub Locaton.
The Main aim of this project is to increase the sustainability and income generation skills of the
local disadvantaged members in the community to embrace self-employment
Nyota Women Group therefore needs a financial grant of KES 200,000.00 to be able to
effectively implement the project. It is believed that this project will promote the economic
viability of its members
Finances accruing from the project will be entered into the proper books of accounts when
received. A special account in the name of the project will be opened to cater for only project
funds. To ensure effective control, management and monitoring of project funds, no single
signatory will be allowed to access the project funds, and the signatories of this account will be
three. Under the consent of the three and with approval of the committee, funds will be
withdrawn from the bank and utilized for the intended purpose.
Books of accounts will be audited regularly through external auditors. After auditing the project
accounts, the auditors will submit an audit report, which will satisfy the project funders and stake
holders that correct and proper books of accounts have been maintained.
There will be the project committee which will exercise budgetary control over the project
finances. This will be executed through comparison of expenses estimated in the budget with
actual expenses incurred during the period.
Project sustainability
In the initial stage of this project implementation, members of Nyota Women Group hope that
the loan funds will be able to finance and gear up. During the implementation through a
successful startup, funds generated will be used to execute the objectives and mission of Nyota
Women Group, while part of the funds will be re-invested in the project for rejuvenation and
program sustainability.
