The Capstone strand I have chosen is: project

Proposed title for my Project Proposal: (write the proposed title for your Capstone Project in one clear
sentence): to create an emotion filled dance consisting of a few dancers from my studio and myself.

What is your inquiry question that interests you for further research? It should be a question that connects with
a purpose, passion or personalized area of interest for you. This is a question that you cannot just google an
answer for. Please see examples from your Capstone booklet.
My inquiry question is:

- How can the art of dance help heal trauma and recover from declining mental health?

Rationale/context: Detail your reasons for choosing this inquiry question. Explain WHY you are choosing to
investigate this topic as a major area of focus. How does this area of inquiry connect to your passion(s),
purpose? Why is it of personal interest to you?

- I have delt with a reasonable amount of mental trauma that has directly impacted the person I am
today. Although I am doing a lot better now, I would like to see if choreographing a dance relating to
the reason, could help release the last bits of tension and raise awareness to the other students I
am teaching.

Background: What background knowledge/connections/prior learning do you have in this area of inquiry?

- I have choreographed on myself, as well as other students before

- I have danced for almost 12 years – therefore I have the knowledge and techniques well understood
- I have performed very emotional dances and have made judges, and audience members to feel
emotion – I understand how to impact viewers and raise awareness

Career connections: What is your intended career area at this point in time? What connections does this
inquiry question have to your life, academic and/ or career goals?
 At this moment I want to enter medicine – although this isn't directly connected, I plan to still be connected
within the dance community and help others. This would help me further my understandings in teaching and
helping others accomplish their goals and overcome their personal obstacles.

Interdisciplinary and core competencies connections: What subject areas and core competencies will
be connected with your project? Outline and explain the connections.

p.e - the physical and mental aspect of dancing

Art – the creativity and artistic choices I will need to learn and use
Teamwork/collaboration - need in order to have a functioning team
Leadership – I will be leading the younger students therefore I will need to be the leader
Critical thinking/problem solving – will need to preserve the challenges I am anticipating and do so in a
productive way

Electronic portfolio (presentation) – will use a combination of the dance created as well as my journey
through dance – pictures/videos starting from age 6 to now and how it has impacted my well being

Description of my Capstone project. Specific Project Details of the Capstone Project: what will you
research, create, study, produce, solve, investigate? What product will be produced at the end of this
project for evaluation. Write a one-page description outlining your proposal.

- Will be creating and producing an emotion based contemporary routine – awareness on abusive
relationships (song: power by Isak Danielson)
- 2 and a half minute routine – will be 6 dancers including myself from my home studio (Fusion force
studio) – hoping to have Ella, Mariana, Alex, Emily, Katie and myself
- Will have 3-4 days to teach the routine on Christmas break (when the studio should be mostly
available) – will teach and perform and record it in the studio – dancers will wear all black (maybe
accents of white)
- Will need to edit song to be 2 ½ minutes – will need to edit recordings (line up music and capture
different angles)
- After the recording is done, I will use cyber link 365 (video editing app) to edit all the clips together
 and put the cut music on top of it all – being as I have never used this app I will need to ask help
from my dad to learn how/ what to do
- Will need to create/plan formations to make the routine different but powerful
- The dance will require a clear intention, partner work, dance breaks, group dance breaks, etc
- I will investigate if and how the routine has helped the dancers heal or learn from the message
being performed – will message the dancers after the dance is completed
- I may ask more people from my studio how dance has helped them if I don’t have enough answers
– will directly message them as well

need to be able to complete this project. What is your plan to be able to access/learn all of the resources
necessary to achieve completion of this project? Detail your plans.

- Studio space – confirm with my studio head for practice space

- Phone (for music)
- iPad (formation and choreo layout)
- recording camera, tripod, etc. - ask my dad if I can borrow his
- Dancers – send a message out to the dancers I would like to have help out

Mentors/Community Connections: What types of mentor(s)/community connections will you need to

help you complete your capstone project? How will your mentor(s) help you? What is your plan to access
the mentorship/community connections necessary for this project?

Dance teacher Kim – she has been teaching for more years than I have been alive – I am going to be
utilizing her style of choreography and infuse it with my own
Dance teacher Emma – she has been choreographing me solos for 4 years – she has helped me learn
how to communicate my emotions through my dancing – I plan to have her as mentor because of how
much she has helped and influenced my dancing this far

Project limitations: What are some project limitations and potential obstacles that you foresee that might
affect progress with your Capstone Project?

- I won't have too much time to choreograph and teach

- I won't have too big of studio space
- I may not be able to get enough dancers to participate
- The choreo I come up with may not work for the dancers involved
