TEST 2B (Unit 2)

Reading
7 Read the text and complete the sentences.

My friends and I went hiking in the Rocky Mountains in the United States for two
weeks. We really enjoyed ourselves. The scenery was beautiful and the weather
was warm; perfect for walking in! On our last day, we were almost at the bottom
of the mountain when suddenly, everything changed.

The temperature dropped suddenly and it began snowing. We kept walking but
soon it was too cold to move! It was snowing so heavily that we could hardly see.
We saw a small building in the distance and we ran inside to hide from the storm.
Suddenly, there was a strange, rumbling noise. It was an avalanche coming down
the mountain slope towards us! We could see the avalanche sweeping away
trees as it approached and the whole building was shaking!

It was a terrifying experience. The snow trapped us for two days. Luckily, we still
had some food and water left to survive on. When the emergency services found
us they had to rescue us by helicopter! It was a miracle that no one was injured.
We were all relieved when it was over. We definitely had a lucky escape!
