The Amur River basin report summarizes key geographical features, hazards, opportunities, and management issues related to the Amur River basin. The basin spans over 716,200 square miles across Russia, China, and Mongolia. Major hazards in the basin include flooding due to a lack of flood management policies and deforestation. However, the basin also provides opportunities for trade, navigation, and utilization of resources when flood risks are mitigated. Countries could better manage floods by constructing dams or levees while preserving the river's undammed status.

GEOGRAPHICAL FEATURES • The Amur River basin is located in east Asia. The basin is about 716,200 square miles (1,855,000 square km). The river goes through many different places. The river starts at juncture of the Shilka and Argun and ends at the mouth of the Zeya. The river gets most of its water from monsoons and rain fall in summer and Autom. The river can get to a depth of 45ft during very rainy years. The discharge of the river is around 385,000 cubic feet, 10,900 cubic meters per second. Sometimes ice forms in the river causing small ice burgs. • The Inhabitants of the basin are very susceptible to flood hazards in the area. An example is the flood that occurred in September 2013. It was catastrophic due to a lack of flood managing policies on Russia's part. These issues were further complicated by the HAZARDS location of the basin. The main causes are a lack of policies along with the flood points in the basin. This is the main hazard to those inhabiting the area but other than that it is somewhat safe. • The main reason people moved into the area to begin with. There is a good amount of growth opportunities present within the area. It is known as the biggest shipping artery in southeast OPPORTUNITIES Russia. Therefore, offering high trade potential to the inhabitants. The flooding is limited due to limited snowfall and the high-water level is due to monsoon rains. Once the ice is all gone, the entire river is open for navigation. • The Amur river has significant flooding due to many things. Deforestation and an increase in logging and timber efforts by Deforestation and an increase in logging and timber efforts by mainly Russia has contributed to significant flooding, soil erosion. As well as even wildfires along the entire region of HAZARD the river basin. This accelerated mainly in the 1990a when the timber industry had established roots in the region. The river is MANAGEMENT heavily influenced by these logging efforts and any coastal communities and ecosystems have been destroyed. A way to prevent the flooding of the Amur river basin is to construct a dam or build levees. But that would take away its title of being the largest undammed river in the world. • Countries in the basin can further utilize this for their own benefit. This can be done in several ways. Countries in the basin are Russia, China, and Mongolia. They are split relatively equally between Russia and China, with Russia taking up 54%, UTILIZATION China taking up 44%, and Mongolia sitting at the edge of the basin with 2%. These countries can utilize the construction of dams to not be at risk of losing their coastal communities due to flooding. Also, they can have a water source to drink from or even recreational activities. IMAGES
