Dear Elders,

My name is Ragil and I am a student from Sekolah Pelita Harapan Sentul City. I have heard
mountains of stories about your community. I like a lot of things from your community. For example,
I heard that you have a job called The Receiver of Memory which is very cool, because by having
memory, you have a lot of experience and experience is the source of knowledge. I also heard that
your community can control the weather. Another thing I like about your community is a variety of
rules. I like the rule “You can’t ask rude question” because I think that rule respects other people
privacy. However, there are some rules I think you can erase or improve. Such as: “Children below
the age of 9 are not allowed to ride a bicycle (Page 13)”, “The receiver in training needs to be alone,
apart while being prepared by the receiver of memories (Page 62)”, and “There can only be 1
Receiver of memory (Page 87)”.

The first rule that is disagree on is “Children before 9 are not allowed to ride bicycles”. I disagree
with this rule because it the sooner you learn how to ride a bike, the better. I also heard that this
rule is broken all the time, because older siblings will teach, their younger sibling to ride a bike
before the age of 9. The best age for children to learn how to ride a bicycle are between the age of
3-7 years old (Cupka, 2020). At the age of 4-5 years old, the kids can already learn how to ride a two-
wheel bike without the support. So, I would suggest that the children can start riding a bicycle with
support at the age of 3-5 and then cycling without the support at the age from 7-9. With this new
rule, the children can learn a lot of skills such as balancing, steering, reaction time and hand-eye
coordination from a young age.

The second rule that I disagree with are “The receiver in training needs to be alone, apart while
being prepared by the receiver of memories (Page 62).” The feeling of being alone is the one that
hurt you (Thorpe, 2018). Being alone for a long time will hurt you mentally. Loneliness can also lead
to increased blood pressure and depressions. Depressions is usually lead to suicide or in your
community ask for release. So I have two suggestions. The first options is to provide a pet like a dog
for the Receiver. Studies has shown that having a pet, especially dogs and cats can cure loneliness
and depression. It can also improve cardiovascular health (Robinson, 2022). The second option is for
the receiver has someone to talk to. Having someone to have face to face interaction is proven to
reduce stress, anxiety and also depression.

The third and the last rule I disagree on is “There can only be 1 Receiver of memory (Page 87).” From
what I heard; the Receiver of memory job are to hold the memory so the community don’t have to. I
also heard that the memories they have can cause pain. From my experience, knowing something
that only you know will hurt you sooner or later. When I was in elementary school, one of my friends
was on a car accident and his parents tell the teacher not to tell my friends. I was listening to them
and know I know where has he been. It doesn’t feel nice when my friends searching from him while I
can’t even say that he was in an accident. Finally, I confess and it felt nice. So I would suggest that
there are two or several others Receiver of memory, so the pain of bearing the memories are being
split up equally.

So, I just cover the rule that I do not agree with, which are “Children below the age of 9 are not
allowed to ride a bicycle (Page 13)”, “The receiver in training needs to be alone, apart while being
prepared by the receiver of memories (Page 62)”, and “There can only be 1 Receiver of memory
(Page 87)”. I hope you agree and want to improve or change the rule that I suggest. Thank you for
reading this letter.

Best regards,

Abhsieka Ragil Anabrang
