The following pre-requisites and system tools required are already installed;

1. usbser.sys
2.6119.inf
3. RPI Record Viewer
4. Hyperterminal

Number 2 is usually provided for by windows automatic driver updates

Number 1 is basically a key that allows the PC to detect the CT Tester hardware.
However the source code is available at github and also downloaded in the downloads
folder.
The manufacturer also provides these drivers in their website,
www.redphase.com.au/590 Drivers/Drivers.rar also through emailing them at
sales@redpahse.com.au using company email address.

When the required drivers are properly working, the CT Tester will be detected when
plugged in.

This is the operating procedure deduced;

1. The PC and the CT Tester should be powered ON

2. Using the USB to Serial connector, connect the CT Tester to the laptop
3. Go Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Device Manager.
4. Under device manager, go to the Ports(COM & LPT) submenu that is under the
DESKTOP-BFR0HOM menu
5. Under Ports(COM & LPT), There will be a device named AT91 USB to Serial
Converter (COMx), where x stands for an interger describing the port number, e.g.
COM3,COM4 etc
6. Take note of the value assigned to x since it varies with the USB port
plugged in
7. You can close the windows
8. Open Hyperterminal.exe through either the desktop shortcut or using the
search bar to access the telnet software
9. The software, when run will bring a window to set up a new connection
10. The Name can be anything from an index number to the name of the device
11. Press OK
12. Under the Connect to window, ignore the greyed out textboxes and go to
the 'Connect using' drop down menu and then select the COMx that was observed in
the device manager, ports-submenu
13. Press OK
14. The 'COMx Properties' window will appear, where the values should be as
follows;
Bits per second: 115200
Data bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop bits: 1
Flow control: none
15. Click the Apply button then the OK button
16. Now the Hyperterminal is set and to read data from the CT Tester, you
head to the menu bar in the window and then click on the transfer menu then
'Capture Text'
17. A 'Capture Text' window will appear where we specify the path file where
we can store the data read from the CT Tester
18. Specify the path, for example on the desktop and then input the file
name, such as, test data.
19. Then click Start
20. Now we go to our CT Tester and then head to PRINT/DOWNLOAD/UPLOAD (Option
3)
21. We then go to DOWNLOAD RESULTS TO PC (Option 2)
22. Then click START DOWNLOAD (Option 1)
23. Wait for the data to finish uploading then on the hyperterminal window go
to the menu bar and click 'Transfer' then capture text in the drop down menu, then
'Stop' in the sidemenu
24. Now we save the data in the specifed file by clicking File in the menu
bar then Save in the drop down menu
25. Here we can close the hyperterminal menu
26. Now we open the RPI-RecordViewer.exe software where a menu will appear
27. Select the instrument model
28. Select the Test Record File which is the path file where the
hyperterminal stored the data downloaded
29. Make sure you select the .txt selection so as to see the filename where
you stored the data
30. Click the open button so that the software can read the data downloaded
31. Click the 'view records' button so as to access the information from the
data
32. In the toolbar, you can print or save the data as word, pdf or excel
format

*******THE END**********

Short comings
The process has to be done everytime you connect the CT Tester for uploading or
downloading data
The procedure is also Long and Tedious

Recommendations
A way of automating the process through macros and third party softwares is needed
to eliminate repition and also find a way of adding shortcuts for device
configuration as a
faster alternative to the control panel
The procedure can also be shorted, either by using better grammar or finding
shortcuts

CONCLUSION
The process looks long and tedious but the Data is read and analysed by the
computer therefore making the project a success
