R.E Construction: It’s Now or Never

I. Introduction

Growth comes before success. This is why it is an important aspect in business as it brings
opportunities to the businessman. While it brings opportunities it also has its downsides such as loss
of control, shortage of cash and compromised quality. One method to address this would be to hire
more manpower.

II. Background

Recruitment is the process of attracting qualified candidates for a job role and Selection
is the process of identifying and selecting the right candidate for that job.

The contributions of each employee play a pivotal role in the sustenance and growth of
a business. Hence it is extremely important to select the right person for the job. The same way as a
square peg does not fit in a round hole, a bad hire can affect the overall business outcomes.

The impact to your business when you hire the wrong candidate is often much more
than not hiring a person at all! Recruitment is not only an operational activity but a key strategic
activity for the business.

Hence there is a need for developing a strong recruitment and selection process. The right
process reflects on your company’s professionalism and portrays your organization’s maturity in
attracting and hiring the right talent. An effective process helps in creation of a talent pool in a
proactive manner, thus assisting in meeting the medium-term and long-term business objectives.

Recruiting involves multiple stakeholders including senior level employees in your company
and can cost a lot in terms of time and money. Hence one needs to ensure that the process is well
defined and optimized to meet the needs of all stakeholders.

III. Evaluation of the Case

In the case of Engineer Romeo Estabillo, he’s considering whether to hire additional four
full-time Civil Engineers in his construction firm. By reviewing the company’s payroll, he’s having
hard time deciding whether to hire them or not. While hiring them would be beneficial to the
workforce of the company and lead to much efficient and stable growth but it also has risks since
money in this case is insufficient.
IV. Proposed Solution/Changes

In Engr. Estabillo’s situation, the firm is earning profit and given that fact it is in his best
interest to hire the four Civil Engineers. This will increase the profit of the firm by accommodating
the lack of manpower thus it will also solve the financial risk in the near future. With more
manpower the burden of the few workers will lessen and overall lead to a positive work atmosphere
and will result to a more efficient and productive business.

V. Recommendations

In a new developing firm it is best for Engr. Estabillo to hire experienced Civil Engineers.
Not only that it will help the business but it also will lessen mistakes. As his business continues
growing it is recommended for him to hire skilled HR as well as managers to accommodate the loss
of control in some areas brought by growth of the business.
