Glossary

Deculturize- is the process by which an ethnic group is forced to abandon its language, culture,
and customs. It is the destruction of culture of a dominated group and its replacement by the
culture of the dominating group.

Congruity- a point of agreement.

Metacognition- awareness and understanding of one’s own thought processes.

Pedagogy- the method and practice of teaching, especially as an academic subject or theoretical
concept.

Piaget’s- Swiss child psychologist noted for his studies of intellectual and cognitive development
in children.

Lev Vygotsky- was a Russian psychologist most known for his sociocultural theories on
cognition.

Theory- a supposition or a system of ideas intended to explain something, especially one based
on general principles independent of the thing to be explained.

Theorist- is a person concerned with the theoretical aspects of a subject.

Proximal- relating to or denoting an area close to a Centre of a geological process such as

sedimentation or volcanism.

Synapses- a junction between two nerve cells, consisting of a minute gap across which impulses
pass by diffusion of a neurotransmitter.
Kinesthetic- relating to a person’s awareness of the position and movement of the parts of the
body by means sensory organs (proprioceptors) in the muscles and joints.
