ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES-PERFORMANCE TASK

1. Sunscreens are used to protect the skin from the harmful effects of the sun. They help to
prevent sunburn and premature aging such as wrinkles, leathery skin. It also help to decrease
the risk of skin cancer and also of sunburn-like skin reactions caused by some medications.
The active ingredients in sunscreens work either by absorbing the sun's ultraviolet radiation,
preventing it from reaching the deeper layers of the skin, or by reflecting the radiation.
Wearing sunscreen does not mean that you can stay out longer in the sun. Sunscreens cannot
protect against all of the sun's radiation.
X-rays and gamma rays are both types of high energy (high frequency)
electromagnetic radiation. It created in power plants for nuclear energy, and are also used in
smaller amounts for medical imaging tests, cancer treatment, food irradiation, and airport
security scanners
2. X-rays and gamma rays are a form of nuclear radiation. This high energy waves are
transmitted through body tissues with very little absorption. Gamma rays are used for
sterilising food and medical instruments, and in the treatment and detection of cancer. Cancer
therapy uses high-energy particles or waves, such as x-rays, gamma rays, electron beams, or
protons, to destroy or damage cancer cells. Your cells normally grow and divide to form new
cells. But cancer cells grow and divide faster than most normal cells.
3. The light with a 490 nm wavelength will stimulate the blue receptor more strongly,
therefore your eyes will perceive blue light.

WHAT I CAN DO- PERFORMANCE TASK
1. Car rear view mirror
The side mirrors of the car and the rear view mirror of a car are made up of convex
mirrors. This is because the image formed by a convex mirror is diminished and erect image,
thus it provides a larger field of view. A larger field of view helps the driver to know better
about the traffic behind.
3. Street light reflectors
Convex mirror are used as reflector in street lamps whereas concave mirror is used as
a reflector in torch and car headlight. When a parallel light rays hits a convex mirror, it
reflects the rays outwards and travels directly away from an imaginary focal point. Since the
convex mirror has the property to diverge light, it is used as the reflector in street lights so
that it could spread the light to large areas.

LESSON 12
WHAT I CAN DO – PERFORMANCE TASK
1. The main reasons was the signal or the network of Nick’s is poor. The biggest reason for
weak cell phone signal reception is the distance from the closest cell tower. The radio waves
of the cell tower seem to be weak or not reaching Nick’s location. This is one reason why he
cannot send his message.
2. Bad weather can cause heavy traffic or poor network connection. It is some of the reason
for message delay. Some periods of the day create congestion on the network carrier and this
may delay the message delivery. Another reason for SMS messages delays is an error on the
operator's server. Normally such problems are easily fixed by the carriers and there is a low
probability of message loss.
3. Telecommunications companies possess the technological know-how integral for
communication thru the internet, phone, airwaves, cables, wires, or wirelessly. They have
built the infrastructure essential for passing voice, words, video, and audio via these skill to
anywhere in the world.
4. They are used in:
1. TV Broadcasting
2. Navigation
3. Weather Forecast
4. Radio Broadcasting
5. Short Wave Radio
B.
Physicist Heinrich Hertz proved the existence of radio waves in the 1880s at a
university. The first time Hertz thought seriously about proving Maxwell’s theory. In 1887,
he design a brilliant set of experiment to test Maxwell's hypothesis. He uses an oscillator
made of polished brass knobs, each are connected to an induction coil separated by a tiny gap
over which sparks could leap and create a radio pulses. He believed that the circuit was
vibrating which is determined by electrical properties called inductance and capacitance. The
phenomenon called self-inductance. Herts distinguished the pulses or waves with his receiver
because the sparks jumped from the transmitter to receiver even though it has a distance of

1.5 meters. He failed to prove Maxwell’s theory, but he also was able to generate radio
waves.
