Electricity can be very dangerous. Every year lots of people have accidents at home
because they aren't careful with electricity. Remember these seven rules and they will
help you to use electricity safely.
1 Don't touch plugs or sockets with wet hands. Water conducts electricity. This means
the electricity can travel through the water and hurt you. This can be very dangerous.
2 Keep all electrical appliances away from water. Never use them in the bathroom.
3 Don't put lots of plugs in one socket. This can damage the electrical system in your
house or start a fire.
4 Never pull wires. Hold the plug when you want to take it out of the socket. Pulling
wires can damage the electrical appliance, the plug or the socket.
5 Keep wires tidy. People can fall over untidy wires, and pets sometimes chew them.
6 Watch out for power lines when you're outside. Never fly a kite near power lines. The
electricity can go through the kite and the string - to you!
7 Remind your mum or dad to be careful with wires when working outside. Don't cut
wires when an appliance is on, it's very dangerous.
