1.

  Find the length of an arc in a circle of radius 10 centimeters subtended by the central angle of
50°. Show your work.

Solution:

We've got

Length = x 2 x 2x 3.14 x 10cm

= x 3.14 x 5 cm ≅ 8.73cm.

The length of the arc is 8.73cm

2.  Graph   on [-4π, 4π] and verbalize how the graph varies from the graphs
of  .

Graph    on the window [−5π, 5π] and describe freely what the graph shows. You can
use www.desmos.com/calculator to obtain the graphs.
The first graph, sin x with a weighting of x, shows standard oscillations that grow

bounded by two lines of the representative functions. This demonstrates that sin x

fluctuates between -1 and 1. The minimum and maximum will be found where y = x

or y =-x intersect with the function y= *sin (x). As the graph expands, it does so

proportionally, which means that as x approaches infinity, so does y. The inverse is

true in the second graph, where the sin function flattens out as we approach infinity

(Abramson, 2017).
3. A 23-ft ladder leans against a building so that the angle between the ground and the ladder is 80°.
How high does the ladder reach up the side of the building? Show the steps of your reasoning.

We’ve got the hypotenuse already, so we will use the sin method to work it out.

Sin=opp/hyp

Hyp= 23ft

Opp= x

0.985 =

0.985×23 = ladder height

= 22.651 feet

The ladder reaches a height of 22.651 feet.
