Date: September 14, 2022

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson the student should be able to:

 Reminisce axioms and properties of equality; definitions, postulates and

theorems on points, lines, angles, and angle pairs; definitions and theorems on

triangles; and properties of inequality

 State the theorems 1, 2 and 3 on triangle inequalities

 Illustrate theorems 1, 2 and 3 on triangle inequalities

II. Subject Matter

Learning Competency: The learner illustrates theorems on triangle inequalities.

(M8GE-Iva-1)
Topic: Inequalities in Triangle

Lesson: Inequalities among Sides and among Angles of a Triangle

Geometry Textbook for Third Year

Value (s): Expressing one’s beliefs or opinion appropriately

III. Procedure

A. Preparatory Activities

1. Classroom Routine

 Prayer

 Greetings

 Attendance (quizzes serve as the attendance)

2. Motivation

Your parents support you in your studies. One day, they find out that your topic in

Grade 8 Math is on Inequalities in Triangles.

They say they will grant you three wishes if you can hit with an arrow the corner
with the smallest region and two wishes if you can hit the corner with the largest
region.
 Which region should you hit so your parents will grant you three

wishes?

 Which region should you hit so your parents will grant you two

wishes?

B. Lesson Proper

1. Activity
(To complete this activity the teacher will assign the students by group
and will be given 3 minutes to answer)

2. Analysis

Based on your activity:

 Is there a relationship between the size of an angle and the length of the side

opposite to it?

Possible Answer: Yes, there is.

 What is the relationship between the shortest side of a triangle and the

measure of the angle opposite it?

Possible Answer: If one side of a triangle is the shortest, then the angle

opposite it is the smallest.

 What is the relationship between the longest side of a triangle and the

measure of the angle opposite it?

Possible Answer: If one side of a triangle is the longest, then the angle

opposite it is the largest.

 When one side of a triangle is longer than a second side, the angle opposite

the first side is larger than the angle opposite the second side.

Theorem 1: If one side of a triangle is longer than a second side, then the

angle opposite the first side is larger than the angle opposite the second side.

 What is the relationship between the smallest angle of a triangle and the side

opposite it?

Possible Answer: If one angle of a triangle is the smallest, then the side

opposite it is the shortest.

 What is the relationship between the largest angle of a triangle and the side

opposite it?

Possible Answer: If one angle of a triangle is the largest, then the side

opposite it is the longest.

 When one angle of a triangle is larger than a second angle, the side opposite

the first angle is longer than the side opposite the second angle.

 Theorem 2: If one angle of a triangle is larger than a second angle, then the

side opposite the first angle is longer than the side opposite the second

angle.

 Can we form a triangle if the sum of the lengths of the two shorter sides is

EQUAL to the length of the longest side?

Possible Answer: A triangle cannot be formed.

 Can we form a triangle if the sum of the lengths of the two shorter sides is

LESS THAN the length of the longest side?

Possible Answer: A triangle CANNOT be formed.

 When the segment forms a triangle, the sum of the lengths of any two

segment is greater than the third segment.

 Theorem 3: The sum of the lengths of any two sides of a triangle is greater

than the third side.

3. Abstraction/Generalization
1. Is there a relationship between the size of an angle and the length of the side

opposite to it?

Possible Answer:

 Yes, there is

2. What does theorem 1 of inequalities in triangles stated?

Possible Answer:

 If one side of a triangle is longer than a second side, then the angle

opposite the first side is larger than the angle opposite the second side.

3. What does theorem 2 of inequalities in triangles stated?

Possible Answer:

 If one angle of a triangle is larger than a second angle, then the side

opposite the first angle is longer than the side opposite the second angle.

4. What does theorem 3 of inequalities in triangles stated?

Possible Answer:

 The sum of the lengths of any two sides of a triangle is greater than the

third side.

4. Application
