Definition of Terms 1. Resort: A resort is a full-service lodging facility that provides


access to or offers a range of amenities and recreation facilities to emphasize a leisure
experience. Resorts serve as the primary provider of the guests' experience, often provide
services for business or meetings, and are characteristically located in vacation-oriented
settings.
2. Wellness: more than just a state of physical health, wellness also encompasses
emotional stability, clear thinking, the ability to love, create, embrace change, exercise
intuition and experience a continuing sense of spirituality.

INTRODUCTION :
According to the Centre for Urban Design and Mental Health (UD/MH), cities are
associated with higher rates of most mental health problems compared to rural areas: an
almost 40% higher risk of depression, over 20% more of anxiety, and double the risk of
schizophrenia, in addition to loneliness, isolation and stress.

Based on the phenomenon of rapid urbanization in the coming decades, psychologist


predicts that there are more and more people would be suffered from mental illness.
Psychologists claim that the loss of natural living environment is one of reasons causing
this social problem.

India has been ranked 139 out of 149 countries in the list of UN World Happiness Report
2021.
Aim:
UNDERSTAND:
1. a) How spaces can be designed in line with the healing process.
2. b) To discover various areas of architecturethat affects human psychology.
3. c) To study the concept of sensory architecture to understand the relation of man
and his environment.
4. d) To study how natural elements can be a catalyst in the healing environment.

Objective:
The mental health retreat uses ayurvedic, yoga, and meditation approach for trauma
healing by connecting the different
methods of healing for a more effective outcome. It has 4 major components, physical,
psychological, cultural, and social which are all addressed in the retreats program.

● To study the character and behavior of tourists in India.


● To study the human senses in architecture - Explore Sensorial Architecture
● To study the meditation in architecture
● To study the context that is suitable for wellness resort
● To study and create the natural therapy for the resort through a variety of facilities
and functions
● To design hospitality that would not just concern the commercial but more than
that the feeling of intimacy to nature
Thrust area:
Sensorial Architecture: Textures, smells, and sounds can strongly affect the user's
experience. Based on this, sensory architecture can transform the interaction between
the users seeking healing and the built environment into something even deeper.

It has close connectivity to major metropolitan cities as there are constantly people
traveling to Auroville in search of various healing practices and it is surrounded by nature
which is an advantage in terms of design considerations.
