Do you spend too much money when you go
shopping? Here is some useful advice.
● Before you go shopping, make a list of the things
you want.
● When you go shopping for clothes, ask yourself:
Why am I buying this T-shirt? Is it only because
it’s on sale? Is it really a bargain? Do I really
want a purple and green T-shirt?
● Don’t shop for food at the supermarket when you
feel hungry! Hungry people buy too much food –
and the wrong kind of food! Go shopping after a
meal.
● Buy things from your local market. Prices are
usually cheaper there.
● When you go into a shop, ask the assistant for
help or advice. Then you won’t buy the wrong
things.
● Don’t go shopping when you are bored. Not all
activities cost money! For example, you can meet
your friends in the park.
● Save some money every week. Do you really
want an ice cream every day in the summer? Stop
buying ice cream for a month and you can afford
to buy that brilliant new computer game!

Ramon, you’re Spanish, so why did you come to
England?
When I was a teenager, I always wanted to visit
England. Then I found a job with a film production
company and came to London to work. It’s a dream
come true! At the moment I’m living in a flat in
Wimbledon, and I travel to work by train. I don’t
really enjoy that. I have a long walk to the train
station, and then I stand in the train for forty-five
minutes with hundreds of other people. I hardly
ever sit.
What’s your flat like?
I can’t afford to live in the centre of London, but
one day I will! My flat’s quite small, but
Wimbledon is a great part of London, and there are
lots of interesting shops in the area. My Spanish
cousins and friends sometimes visit me, but
unfortunately, my visitors sleep on the floor because
my flat has only one bedroom! But I’m very lucky
to live in one of the world’s most exciting cities. I
can find all my favourite things here: great music,
art, history, sport ...
Have you visited other parts of England?
Yes, I often go to different places for my job. Last
month we were filming in a small village. It was so
different from London! It was quiet and there were
woods, hills and a river. One day, when I’m rich,
I’ll have a small house there!
What about the food in England?
The supermarkets in London have got food from all
over the world, and I can find lots of Spanish food:
sausages, vegetables, olive oil … and there are lots
of Spanish restaurants. But I also enjoy trying food
from other countries. My favourite is Chinese!
And the weather?
The weather here is terrible! Even English people
say that!
