The worst food crisis in DECADES. But did you know that this was going on?

By: Estela, John Carl khakawen

Parts of Africa are experiencing the worst drought it’s seen in over 40
years. Extreme weather is on the rise impacting communities on an
enormous scale in parts of Kenya, as well as Ethiopia and Somalia. Over
146 million people are struggling without the food they need across
parts of sub-Saharan Africa, this number is set to rapidly increase if we
don’t act now. Drowned in East Africa have left lands born dry, and as a
result, 7 million livestock have died, often the only way a family can eat
or earn money. As a result, crop production has drastically decreased,
and COVID-19 continues to have a severe impact on people’s
livelihoods. The harsh reality is that parents are being forced to skip
meals so that their children can eat, sometimes not eating for days
themselves. Communities who have been repeatedly hit by drought
and food crises. Of some of the world’s most resilient people, it’s time
for us to act.
