Lab #12

To study different types of AC machines

Theory :
The rotating part of AC machines is called rotator .while the static part is called as
stator .There are slots on the stator, where windings, called stator windings is placed .

 The rotor may or may not have windings

 If it has windings is called as rotor (field) winding which are energized with different dc
source
 Conventionally there are two types of of AC machines
1.synchronous machines
2.Asynchronous machines (or induction machines )
 Synchronous machine :
Synchronous machines the field (rotor) current is provide by
separate DC source
 Asynchronous machine :
In asynchronous machines the field current is provide from the
stator winding DC through transformer action. (induction)
 Synchronous generator :
The frequency of generator emf is synchronous or locked with
the rotational speed of rotor
 Synchronous motor :
The frequency of provide source is synchronized with the
rotational speed of the rotor
