Reflection

Domingo, Czarina
Reading horror and dark-themed texts gives chills yet lessons on the harsh
realities in this world that humans should realize. The three stories entitled
The Lottery by Shirley Jackson; The Room in the Tower by Rudyard Kipling;
and The Monkey’s Paw by W.W. Jacobs has revolved on different events, and
circumstances. However, all these stories had ignited the flame of valiancy to
face the darkness that comes in every different way through the journey of life.
The Room in the Tower talked about how the darkness and power of dreams
could overlap reality, and the power of the human minds that affect the
deepest fantasies of an individual. The Monkey’s Paw had also showcased on
how greed and power had corrupted humans and turned them like puppets of
their own. The Lottery then portrayed how power and authority had corrupted
the society. These stories had vast, and varieties of events yet targeted the goal
to open the eyes of every reader on how different types of darkness could ruin
human lives. As a reader, reading horror genres has not been my forte.
However, these stories are such mindblowers that had me struck and had hit
me different realizations as aforementioned.
