MODULE INFORMATION

OVERVIEW:

Module Name: Tamadun Islam dan Tamadun Asia (TITAS) - (Islamic and Asian Civilization)

Module Code: MPU3123

Synopsis:

This module is a compulsory module for the Malaysian students who are pursuing their bachelor’s degree.
This module is allocated in the U1 component under the Mata Pelajaran Umum (MPU). The students must
pass this module in order to graduate. This module recognizes the benefits of the ancient civilization, the
advantages and disadvantages of the past and present to devise future strategy. Based on this study, an
understanding of the background of the community, religious belief systems and cultural diversity in ancient
civilizations.

This module discusses the civilization disciplines that focus on the development of Islamic and Asian
civilizations such as Malay, Indian and Chinese civilizations. Besides, this module enhances the students’
sense of respect, morality and the human capital development as the citizens. This module will use e-
learning platform known as TIMeS with guided material. Briefing session must be attend by a student during
week one, two, seven and fourteen. This module is Personalized and Collaborative Learning and Teaching
which are students were given notes, instructional video, task and other materials as a guided learning
through TIMeS. Students also will experience self-directed Learning through task and activities need to be
done online via e-learning. Meanwhile for group assignment is based on project–based learning because
each group need to create video and magazine as an outcome.

Assessments for TITAS module divided to four summative assessments. Each assessment carries a different
weightage.

Assessment 1 is video presentation and Assessment 2 is written assignment. These two assessments are
group work. Therefore, students need to form a group from week 1 in order to complete and submit the
assessments. Each task will carry 25% for final assessments mark.

Assessment 3 is e-Learning via TIMeS. Students need to complete weekly task on TIMeS to entitled 20% for
final marks. Reading materials such as notes, and videos will provide via TIMeS platform. Weekly task will be
setup by restrictions such as time and task completion.

Assessment 4 is final examination. TITAS final examination is compulsory assessment to be attempted in


order to pass the module. The final examination will be conducted in exam week and is its close book
examination. Final examination will carry 30% for final assessments mark and attendance during final
examination is compulsory for each student.

Teaching and learning approach:

MLO 1 Assessment Task/Activities


Identify major concepts of Students are required to complete the task on TIMeS platform to entitled 20%
Islamic and Asian civilizations for their final marks. Task on TIMeS is weekly based. The students need to
watch a video, attempt a test, quiz, forum and giving opinion on each topic.
Activities on TIMeS is set according to weekly and restriction task on
completion of previous task. Therefore, students need to complete first task at
activities section on that week in order to move to next task. There are 14
content and other relevant information need to be completed and view by
students. Each task will contribute to the progress bar. At the end of semester,
lecturer will calculate the final marks for Assessment 3.

The reading materials will be provided every week to the students. There are
six topics for this module which are Introduction to Civilization, Islamic
Civilization, Malay Civilization, Indian Civilization, Chinese Civilization and
Current Issues, Challenges and the Future of Inter- Civilization Dialogue. Task
will be accessible by weekly on Open learning but there are timeline students
need to aware with. For activities window, there will be open and closed
setting. Therefore, student’s is advice to keep the timeline very well.

Besides that, students are required to sit for final examination which is closed
book exam conducted at the exam hall. There are six topics discuss in TITAS
will be tested on final examination. The paper consists of two parts, Part A is
multiple choice questions (MCQ) and Part B is true and false (T/F) questions. 60
questions will be divided to 50 MCQ and 10 T/F. Attendance for final
examination is compulsory. Failure to do so, students will be given a fail grade
(F).

Teaching and Learning Activities:
As a guided learning, lecturer will provide notes and video every week on TIMeS in order to make sure the MLO
is achieve. Besides that, lecturer will provide semester timeline to the students from week 1. The briefing
session will take place on week one. Lecturer also will conduct face to face sessions in week two, six and
fourteen to ensure the students’ understanding of every topic.

YouTube live sessions will be conduct twice for each semester which on week 5 and week 10 in order to keep
the students in track for doing their assignment and task on TIMeS. The lecturer should be open to any
consultation via TIMeS chat, email or other medium of communication agreed early of semester. Summative
assessment will conduct on exam week carry 30% for final examination.

MLO 2 Assessment Task/Activities


Explain the importance and MLO 2 is achieved via group video presentation. In the first class, students will
the functions of different form a group contains 4 – 8 members to do the group work. Group work

After form a group, they require to fill up the group list and need to keep the
group list up to date.

The video is produced to reflect understand of the chosen topic. Each of the
group member must deliver a presentation in the video. The video depends on
the students’ creativity. Creativity is very important to make the presentation
more interesting and entertaining. The length for the video is around 7-10
minutes. Submission of the video must be uploaded in the YouTube. The video
presentation must be in Bahasa Melayu.

MLO 3 Assessment Task/Activities

same topic as magazine.

Each group required to produce video presentation to entitle 25 marks for each member. The marking will be
based on the attached rubric. Video must be presented in Bahasa Melayu. Criteria of the video as below:

 Each group needs to create a video presentation of the research. This video will reflect the written
assignment.
 Video length is 7-10 minutes.
 Each of the group member must deliver a presentation in the video.
 The video depends on the students’ creativity. Creativity is very important to make the presentation
more interesting and entertaining.
 The submission of video must be uploaded in the YouTube platform.

Assessment Task 2: Written Assignment (Group Work) - (25 Marks)

Students need to form group between 4 – 8 members. For written assignment each group are required to do
magazine based on the chosen topic given by the lecturer. Criteria of the written assignment as below:

 Students need to use Bahasa Melayu as medium of writing for your e-magazine.
 Student can use their creativity to ensure you fulfil the rubric criteria.
 Student e-magazine must contain at least 10 - 15 pages with enough and relevant information.
 Student group photos at the research site are compulsory.

Assessment Task 3: E-Learning Task Completion via TIMeS - (20 Marks)

It is a blended course aimed at large-scale participation access via the internet which is TIMeS platform. It also
provides interactive user forums to support community interactions among students and between lecturers and
students. Every week student must complete task via TIMeS in order to complete their weekly task. Completion
of task will contribute 20% in final mark. Students need to read notes, watch a video and doing a task online. All
tasks will be as restricted via dateline to make sure all task been done on time.

Assessment Task 4: Final Examination - (30 Marks)

Final examination is a closed-book examination. It seeks to determine students’ individual effectiveness in


responding to specific questions under time-constrained invigilated conditions. The paper contains 60 questions
which are 50 multiple choice question and 10 questions true and false. Students are required to sit/attempt the
final examination. Failure to do so would result in a fail grade (F).

Remarks
No extension will be granted for assignment submissions. If the assignment is submitted late due to
circumstances beyond your control, you are required to inform the lecture. The student will be penalised 5%
(per day) for the late submission without valid reason/ excuse.

Students should maintain at least 80% of attendance throughout the semester to be allowed to sit for the final
examination.

If a student is unable to participate in any assessment, notification should be given to the lecturer concerned
within 24 hours of the assessment time. By producing proper documentation upon returning, the student can
request for an assessment of equivalent level within 3 days.

Students are awarded a final grade which corresponds with the marks obtained.

In order to pass this subject, students are required to attempt the final exam. Failure to sit for the final exam
will result in a fail grade for the subject.

Students must pass this module in order to graduate.
