Unit overview

Vocabulary: free time activities
1. Review: Quick review of the previous unit
a. Ask the student questions about where he lives, what
he likes…
2. Pre-task 1:
a. Have the student read the title of the unit, then guess
what it means.
b. Set a customized goal for the first objective: Talking
about what do you do in your free time
3. Task 1: Talking about present activities
a. Have the student take a look at the pictures, then try to
describe each one of them.
b. Have the student do activities 1a and 1b on page 32.
c. Give the student two minutes to write down sentences
about what he does in his free time.
d. Have the student talk about his free time activities
without reading.
e. Give praise, point out any mistakes, encourage self-
correction, and give feedback on other areas such as
intonation and pronunciation.
f. Have the student have a look at the interview on page
33 and describe it. Ask him questions about it.
g. Have the student do activities 3 and 4 on page 32.

4. Pre-task 2:
a. Set a customized goal for the second objective: Asking
questions about the present
b. Ask the student WH-questions and let him notice the
word order as well as the type of answers (long and
same tense as the verb in the question)
c. Ask the student Yes / No questions then let him notice
the usage of the auxiliary to do and the short answers.
d. Tell the student to ask you questions.
5. Task 2: Questions using the present simple
a. Let the student practice with activity 5c on page 32.
b. Point that the present simple questions don’t change for
I, you, we and they.
c. Ask the student to fill in the blanks in activity 6.
d. Practice the pronunciation with activities 7 and 8 on
page 33.
e. Post-task: Give praise, point out any mistakes,
encourage self-correction, and give feedback on other
areas such as intonation and pronunciation.
f. If the student made many mistakes, do the same activity
again. Otherwise, have them ask you questions.
