Why Violence on TV Shows is Not Okay

Over the years, it was proven that violence on television has a

detrimental effect on it’s viewers. Television violence influences
adolescents, poor or rich, all genders, and all levels of knowledge.
Exposure to violence in television increases the possibility of the viewer’s
behavioral changes. It is significant for society to realize how television
violence should be considered as a threat.

Television is a powerful influence to the viewers as it can shape

someone’s behavior. If there is too much violence shown on television, the
viewers may become immune to it. They will learn to accept violence as
their coping mechanism. It is possible that they will imitate what they see
on the television. Aside from these, viewers especially children, may start
to see the world as an unsafe and scary place to be. They may become
fearful or aggressive towards people around them.

Although television isn’t the only thing that can cause aggressiveness,
it’s clear that it is a factor. We must be aware of what we are paying
attention to and also the people around us. We should limit the amount of
time we use in watching television. Also, we must be critical of messages
we encounter when we are watching. Be a critical viewer.
