INTRODUCTION
Are you familiar with sound and wave? Sound is a vibration that propagates through
a medium in the form of a mechanical wave. In physics, sound is defined as a vibration that
propagates as an audible wave of pressure, through a medium such as gas, liquids or solid.
Now when it comes to waves in physics, wave is a disturbance in a medium that carries
energy without a net movement of particles.
Now that we are familiar with what sound and wave is, there is what we call Sound
Waves and Wave Intensity. A sound wave is the pattern of disturbance caused by the energy
travelling away from the source of the sound. Sound waves are longitudinal waves. This
means that the propagation of vibration of particles is parallel to the energy wave propagation
direction. Sound can be characterized by its frequency (f=1/T), wavelength (λ=ν/f) and
amplitude. Wave Intensity on the other hand is the average power that travels through a
given area as the wave travels through space. The intensity of sound wave is measured using
the edible scale.
This study finds out how difficult it is for the Senior High School students under the
STEM strand to solve an equation of Sound Waves and Wave Intensity. Some people
especially the STEM students think that it is difficult to solve an equation of Sound waves or
even an equation of Wave Intensity. So, this study hypothesize that it is, you’ll get through a
lot of work and solutions in order to solve the problem and it might take some time. This
research will benefit the following;
STUDENTS. The result of the study will be helpful for learners when solving equations
related to Sound Wave and Wave Intensity. They’ll also be familiarize what Sound wave and
Wave Intensity is.
FUTURE GENERATION. The result of the study will be helpful for the future youths who
might study this particular branch of Physics. They will get knowledge by reading and also
by studying this case analysis paper.
I. Students were asked to answer a word problem related to Sound Wave but before that,
learners were given a short reviewer for them to study and have an idea on how to answer the
given problem. After letting them review and solve, they were asked to rate how hard the
problem solving was from easy to moderate to difficult. And the result went;
7
0
Easy Moderate Difficult
Base on Figure 1, 30% (3) of the students thinks it’s easy. Now, 10% (1) of them said
that it’s in the moderate. 60% or 6 out of 10 students thinks that solving sound wave
equations are difficult.
II. An interview session was done with the Senior high school students. This might help the
case to be successful and in order for us to know the statements of opinions of the learners.
We asked at least 5 of the respondents to answer the questions.
Question: What can you say about the problem that was given to you?
This chapter presents the conclusions derived in the conduct of the study which is to
see how difficult it is to solve sound wave and wave intensity equation for STEM Students.
At the end of this chapter you will encounter some recommendations that might be helpful
for an individuals.
The respondents were the Senior High School Students under the STEM Strand. They
were organized thru Survey Questionnaires. The tools used for the gathering of data is
percentage and statements of opinions.
CONCLUSION. Based on the indicated findings. The following conclusion was drawn.
Surveyed students were able to answer the given questionnaire. Based on the given
findings (Figure 1), 60% or 6 out of the 10 students find it difficult to solve the problem. Also
in the interview, most of them said that it was hard and they find it difficult to answer. Thus,
it concludes that solving equations related to sound and wave intensity is difficult for the
senior high school students under the STEM Strand.
RECOMMENDATIONS. Now that this case has been proven, the following
recommendations are hereby presented:
