Priorities of a

Heavenly Citizen
SUBJECT: Pitfalls of False Worship
Bro. Daryl Ace Cornell
Colossians 3:15-17

15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the

which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom;
teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns
and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the
Lord.
17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the
name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by
him.

What should be our priorities as citizens of heaven?

Colossians 3:1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those

things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand
of God.
Ephesians 2:6 And hath raised us up together, and made us
sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
Philippians 3:20 For our conversation is in heaven; from
whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:

What should be our priorities as citizens of heaven?

The priorities of an earthly citizen are earthly, concerned with

only the temporary things of this world, but the priorities of a
heavenly citizen should be heavenly, concerned primarily with
things of eternal value.

When we accepted Christ as our Lord and Savior, we were

unified with him in such a way that everything that happened
to Christ, happened to us.

This new heavenly position in Christ should affect how we live

The Heavenly Citizen Must Let The Peace Of Christ Rule In His Heart

Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God
through our Lord Jesus Christ:

Because of Christ’s death we have been reconciled to God by faith. Now we

are at peace with him because of Christ’s sacrifice for our sins. (Peace with God)

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the
world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be
afraid. (Peace of God)

Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding,
shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

I know that sounds a little sarcastic, ’cause I felt you. You see? But it’s the
truth, just try to bear a little while, see? That’s right. You’ve got to come back to
the thing. Don’t… Not intellectually now, but in your heart, let the peace of God
rest in your heart, make you love your enemy as you love yourself. Why, even
Moses for the people that was rebelling against him, threw himself in the way,
said, “God, take my name out.” That was it, you see? Jesus so loved the enemy
that He gave His life for the condemned, to save those who were unkind to Him;
and prayed on the cross, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t even know what
they’re doing.” They couldn’t understand Him. He preaching was
misunderstood. His life was misunderstood. His speech was misunderstood.
They didn’t understand Him.

Peace of God - Peace of Christ

Christ’s peace guards the believer’s emotions and thoughts.

People’s minds and emotions are constantly under attack because of hard
circumstances, the world, and even Satan. People are constantly fraught with
fear, anxiety, anger, and every other kind of negative emotion.

Though this may be the lot of the world, it is not God’s plan for believers to
live in a state of fear and distress.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the
world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be
afraid.

If my wife would—would respect me because she was afraid of me, I
wouldn’t be…I’d be afraid to leave her. But she loves me. She’s got confidence in
me because she knows I love her, and she loves me. Now when I go away, I
don’t have to say, “Now, Mrs. Branham, I’m going to leave you a rule of orders
here that you should do, a group of orders. You shall not look at any other man,
you shall not do this, or you…I…” Why, she just…It’s automatically. I love her and
she loves me, and that just settles it, I just go on. 38 That’s the way it is living
for Christ. Hallelujah! You just love Him with all your heart, soul, and mind, and
go on, that’s all. There’s no evil can come out. That’s right. Cause, in here, all
things, you’re dead. You are dead, and your life is hid in God, through Christ,
sealed in there by the Holy Ghost. How is the devil going to get you? No.

PEACE AND DECISION MAKING

Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and
supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your
hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are
honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever
things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue,
and if there be any praise, think on these things.
9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and
seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.

John 4:1-9
1 When therefore the Lord knew how the
Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized
more disciples than John,
2 (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his
disciples,)
3 He left Judaea, and departed again into
Galilee.

John 4:1-9
4 And he must needs go through Samaria.
5 Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is
called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that
Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
6 Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore,
being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the
well: and it was about the sixth hour.

John 4:1-9
7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw
water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.
8 (For his disciples were gone away unto the
city to buy meat.)
9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him,
How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of
me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews
have no dealings with the Samaritans.

OUR LORD IS OUR ABSOLUTE

A pitfall of worship is our tendency to set standards or

benchmarks based on what others are doing.
Jesus at the beginning of this story has to leave Judea because
the Pharisees have compared His worship success to that of John
in an attempt to paint both as rivals of each other. When
questioned about Jesus’ ministry success, John (3:27) replies by
stating “a person can receive only what is given them from
heaven. To have God approve of our worship of Him is the only
standard that our worship is to be judged by.

The Pitfalls of False Worship Bro. Daryl Ace V. Cornell

It’s absolute! Not an achievement of man; but God raised Him up from the dead, and
He is an absolute. And we know He’s alive, because here He is with us in the Power of
His resurrection, doing the same thing He did when He was here on earth. 61 I’m tied to
that Ultimate. That’s the end of all strife. I’m tied to it. That’s my life. I was a sinner when
Christ saved me. I met Something. And since That came into me, it’s been—it’s been
different. And I’m tied to it, everything that I am is tied right there. And then God
separating His life, and let me live in Him, and Him in me, then we’re tied. I… 62 It don’t
make any difference what others want to believe. To the individual, you are tied to That.
[Brother Branham pats his Bible—Ed.] That’s your ultimate. That’s the…that’s the last
word. And then if He is the Word, then This must be the last word. This must settle it.
Whatever That says, That’s that scarlet thread. That is Christ. And anything contrary to
That, I know nothing about it. That’s what we want to know, is what this Word says; for I
am tied to Christ, and Christ is the Word. You get it now? [Congregation says, “Amen.”]

INCLUSIVE OF THE LOVE OF CHRIST

We need to understand to always treat everyone around us as

part of the body of Christ

Galatians 6:10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do

good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the
household of faith.

The Pitfalls of False Worship Bro. Daryl Ace V. Cornell

“Brother Branham, I don’t do nothing.” Maybe that’s what’s the matter. That’s the
trouble of it. It’s more sin not to do, than it is to do when you know better. That’s right.
“He that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it’s sin.” You got to make ready.
Doing nothing is the worse thing you can do, do nothing about it.

Now, the branches is the one that bears fruit, not the vine. So we, the church, is left
as the branches. So your eyes and my eyes is the only eyes that God has on the earth.
Your lips and my lips is His—is His branch. He energizes us to bring forth fruit. And our
ears is His ears. Our hands to do good is His hands. Our feet are His feet to carry us to
church, and to do good. “Blessed are the feet that bring, carryeth good tidings,” and
all—all such. We are His vine. And He just pours His energy into us.

WORSHIPPING BECAUSE WE LOVE GOD

The Samaritan woman did not understand what Jesus was

offering her. The material water would only satisfy physical thirst
temporarily but the living waters would quench inner thirst
forever. She was fixated on her physical well being while
neglecting her soul

Matthew 5:45 That ye may be the children of your Father

which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on
the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

WORSHIPPING IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH

Be the worshipper, the Father seeks!

Ephesians 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding

abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power
that worketh in us,

To be forgiven, to have our shame erased, to be included in the

family of God; is treasures beyond anything this world has to offer

The Pitfalls of False Worship Bro. Daryl Ace V. Cornell

Oh, I’d imagine those kind words, looking around at Peter and saying, “Now, now…If I—if I can’t
wash you, you got no part with Me, if you can’t follow My commandment, if you can’t do the will of
the Father; Peter, I love you, but you’ve got to do these things.” That’s part of the Christian faith. 69
Then after He got through washing the disciples’ feet, set down, said, “Now, you call Me Lord and
Master: and you say, well; for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; you
ought to wash one another’s. For…” Listen at it. “For I have given you an example, that you should do
to each other as I have done unto you.” He was the Example of Christianity. He was Christianity. He
was our Pattern. 70 Don’t never try to pattern your life after some preacher, after some priest,
after some great religious man here on earth, but pattern your life after Christ. He is your
Example. He set an example. He lived an example and presented it to the Church. Oh, I hope that
soaks so deep. 71 Why is it that people don’t want to hear the Gospel? See? Notice, soak down deep.
72 He said He was the Example. Now, we see Him; watch what an example He set. He walked out
saying, “I have nothing that I can do in Myself.” And then one came to Him, kind of a little indifferent,
looked around over the audience, and Jesus standing there looked around at him; He said, “Thou art
an Israelite in whom there is no guile.”

WORSHIPPING IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH

John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must
worship him in spirit and in truth.

We must cling to what is true to be able to partake in the

body of Christ.
