IAGO ASPAS
Iago Aspas Juncal is a footballer who was born in Moaña on August 1th in 1987, his
height is 1,76 metres and his weight is 67kg. He is the brother of the football player
Jonathan Aspas and cousin of Adrián Juncal, they played in Celta de Vigo when they
were 10 years old.

Iago currently plays for Celta de Vigo and he is the all-time top scorer of his club. He is
an internacional player for the Spanish national team, and he came to play in the 2018
World Cup in Russia, and he scored a goal against Morocco that qualified Spain for the
round of 16 in the World Cup.

When he was 9 years old, he joined in the lower categories of Celta. His debut in the
first team was on June 8th in 2008 at the Helmántico Stadium in Salamanca, and his
first match in Balaídos was on June 6th in 2009 against Alavés. He scored two goals in
the extra-time ensuring the permanence in the second division. This goals were very
important to him and to his club because thanks to those goals, Iago Aspas prevent the
disappearance of the club and the decline to the third division of Spanish football.

In 2013, he was transferred to Liverpool in exchange for 10 million of euros, but in


2014 he was announced that he will play for Sevilla, this transfer went quite well for
him because he won the UEFA Europa League that same season against Dnipro, (his
only title as a professional player).

In 2015 he returned to Celta de Vigo and he scored 167 goals for the club, and
currently he still in the club. He is Celta´s top star and he is the favourite player of the
Celta´s fans because many teams wanted him with offers of more money, for example
clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona or Atlético de Madrid; but he continued in the club
because it is the team of his city, and he is very honest.

- His devilry goes beyond the field of play, since he claimed to be 9 years old
instead of 8 to have access to the recruitment tests organized by RC Celta.
- Due to his quality and dedication, many fans refer to him as “The Wizard of
Moaña” or the “The prince of Bateas”.
- His union with the goal has allowed him to consolidate himself as the top
Spanish scorer in LaLiga Santander during the 2016/2017, 2017/2018 and
2018/2019 seasons.
- Despite the stage of Aspas in Liverpool and Sevilla was not very good as he had
hoped, this time there was vital in his growth as a footballer. He is a versatile
player for Celta thanks to his step in England and in Sevilla.
