Abacial

Subject/ Schedule: Christian Doctrines/ TTH

1. How and why is our knowledge of God limited?

- God is our Creator and we are His creation. He is infinite and

we are finite. It is very understandable that there are many

things about the character of God that are beyond our

comprehension. We can never fully understand the Scripture with

our limited human minds. Therefore, in order for us to understand

God, He needed to reveal Himself to us. God's revelation of

Himself made us obtain knowledge about His character.

2. Why is it difficult to believe in God?

- We struggle to trust God because we have limited understanding

in Him. We see so little when it comes to human history. It is

hard for us to know how suffering fits in with God's good plan.

We are taught to believe that God's plan is good and right, but

it's difficult to see that when things are difficult.

3. What actions and qualities does the Bible attribute to God?

- God's most fundamental quality is love. All His attributes

arise from love. Love unifies all the attributes of God. His

unconditional live towards human beings exhibits a number of

remarkable qualities. Like how Paul describes love in his

writings in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8, God possesses all the qualities

that love can uphold. God is also the sovereignty of love. If

love is the ultimate source of all God's qualities, then God's

love must be the source of His power. He has great power because

He has great love. This ultimate power of God is the heart of

Christian portrait of God.

4. What is the nature of God's love, and how does it react to

sin?

- God's unconditional love is very generous. It gives an

extravagant, irrational quality. It is filled with surprises. It

is incomprehensible and makes no sense. Just like the parable of

the prodigal son. With everything that the youngest son did, his

father still treated him as his beloved son. There is no way to

treat a scoundrel with lavish affection. But this is the truth.

God's love for sinful men and women transcends all the boundaries

of ordinary experiences and exceeds every expectations. His

sensitivity and love are infinitely greater than our own.
