The UN SDGs

What is it?
The United Nations adopted the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global
Goals, in 2015 as a universal call to action to end
poverty, protect the environment, and ensure that by
2030, all people will enjoy peace and prosperity.

The 17 SDGs are interconnected, recognizing

that actions in one area will impact outcomes in
others and that development must balance social,
economic, and environmental sustainability.

Countries have agreed to prioritize progress for those who are the most disadvantaged. The SDGs
aim to eliminate poverty, hunger, AIDS, and gender discrimination against women and girls.
Clean Water and Sanitation

The Importance of Causes of Water

Water Pollution
Number 6 of the 17 UN SDG goals is clean water and Land runoff, drainage, seepage, sewage, atmospheric
sanitation. Water has become a highly necessary part of deposition, precipitation, industrial waste, and other
human beings’ existence on Earth. Thus, the importance of sources pollute underground water. Such wastes are

as various other industrial sectors.
Problems we encounter
Currently, the biggest problem related to global warming is a huge
water depreciation on Earth. This is mainly caused due to misuse of

necessities. And when it becomes depreciated, it can lead to huge
catastrophic conditions for human beings. Water scarcity affects more
than 40% of the population, an alarming figure that is expected to rise as thousand
temperatures rise. Despite the fact that 2.1 billion people have improved

Goal Target

By 2030, achieve universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water for all
By 2030, achieve access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene for all and end open defecation, paying
special attention to the needs of women and girls and those in vulnerable situations
By 2030, improve water quality by reducing pollution, eliminating dumping and minimizing release of hazardous
chemicals and materials, halving the proportion of untreated wastewater and substantially increasing recycling
and safe reuse globally
By 2030, substantially increase water-use efficiency across all sectors and ensure sustainable withdrawals and
supply of freshwater to address water scarcity and substantially reduce the number of people suffering from water
scarcity
By 2030, implement integrated water resources management at all levels, including through transboundary
cooperation as appropriate
By 2020, protect and restore water-related ecosystems, including mountains, forests, wetlands, rivers, aquifers
and lakes
By 2030, expand international cooperation and capacity-building support to developing countries in water- and
sanitation-related activities and programmes, including water harvesting, desalination, water efficiency,
wastewater treatment, recycling and reuse technologies
Support and strengthen the participation of local communities in improving water and sanitation management
Save Water Save life

Water-saving techniques should be promoted among

people living in societies, communities, and villages, as well
as business sections, as they are the primary water users.
Farmers, children, and women should be taught how to use
and save water effectively. They must recognize the
importance of water in their lives. Clean water scarcity is
not a problem limited to a single country or continent; it is
a global issue that must be addressed globally by raising
public awareness. Here are some ways to save water:

Methods to Save Water

Water is existential to life, and it plays a large

role in sustaining communities, economies, and
societies. Its presence attracts and sustains, while
its absence disperses and condemns. Communities
require sources and systems that meet quantitative
and quality needs for drinking, sanitizing,
production, and firefighting, or they too may die.
Water is also required for the continued operation
of other vital infrastructures such as electricity.
Methods to Save Water
Check your toilet for leaks.
Put a few drops of food coloring in your toilet tank. If, without flushing, the
coloring begins to appear in the bowl., you have a leak that may be wasting more
than 100 gallons of water a day.

your toilet tank
Put a plastic bottle in

Put an inch or two of sand or pebbles in the bottom of a one liter bottle to weigh
it down. Fill the rest of the bottle with water and put it in your toilet tank, safely
away from the operating mechanism. In an average home, the bottle may save
five gallons or more of water every day without harming the efficiency of the
toilet. If your tank is big enough, you may even be able to put in two bottles.

Take shorter showers

A typical shower uses five to ten gallons of water a minute. Limit your showers
to the time it takes to soap up, wash down and rise off.

Install water-saving shower heads or

flow restrictors
Your hardware or plumbing supply store stocks inexpensive shower heads or flow
restrictors that will cut your shower flow to about three gallons a minute instead
of five to ten. They are easy to install, and your showers will still be cleansing and
refreshing.

Water your lawn only when it needs it

Watering on a regular schedule doesn't allow for cool spells or rainfall which
reduce the need for watering. Step on some grass. If it springs back up when you
move your foot, it doesn't need water.

SANITATE WATER
5 ways to sanitate water

Boiling
Boiling water for a long time is the simplest way to
purify it. High temperatures force the bacteria and
virus to vanish, purging the water of any
contaminants. Chemical additions in the water are
eliminated as a result. However, the impurities and
dead microorganisms sink to the bottom of the
water, and boiling does not completely remove
them. To fully purge the water of impurities, you
must pass it through a microporous sieve.

Water Purifier
The type of water filtration most frequently found
in modern homes is an electric water purifier. The
most pure drinking water is produced by a water
purifier using a multi-stage process that includes
UV and UF filtration, carbon block, and
contemporary water filtration technologies.

Reverse Osmosis
One of the most effective ways to cleanse water is
with a RO Purifier. Reverse osmosis eliminates
impurities by forcing water across a semipermeable
membrane. The TDS Controller and Mineraliser
Technology, similar to that found in an A. O. Smith
RO UV Water Purifier, aids in the retention of
essential nutrients while removing harmful
contaminants.

Water Chlorination
This older method involves adding mild bleach to
the water that contains about 5% chlorine. It is
typically used in times of emergency. Water is
rendered safe for consumption after being quickly
disinfected by this mixture, which acts as an
oxidant.

Distillation
In order to ensure that the water is free of
contaminants, distillation involves collecting the
condensed water after evaporation. This takes
longer and removes minerals, so it is less efficient
than an RO filter.

Organizations that help Save Water
Charity: water
Charity: water - is a nonprofit organization bringing clean and safe drinking
water to people in developing countries. They work with local experts and
community members to find the best sustainable solution in each place where
they work, whether it’s a well, a piped system, a BioSand Filter, or a system for
harvesting rainwater. And with every water point they find, their partners
coordinate sanitation and hygiene training, and establish a local Water
Committee to help keep water flowing for years to come.
Accomplishments: For 9.6 million people in 24 countries, they have funded
38,113 water projects. The company has excavated more than 16,000 water
projects in the previous nine years, raised more than $200 million from
contributors, and established new benchmarks for donor involvement and
public relations.

Water.org
Water.org - Their goal is to ensure everyone has access to safe water and sanitation by
removing barriers and advocating for system change. The WaterCredit Initiative is a
core solution. They work with an in-country financial partner to add loans for water
and sanitation solutions to their portfolios. These partners then mobilize funding
from capital markets to provide affordable loans to people in need of water. People
living in poverty use these loans to put a tap or toilet in their homes. Every repaid
loan creates the opportunity for another family to get the safe water and toilets they
need, fast and affordably. It is a pay-it-forward system that makes it possible to help
more people in ways that will last.
Accomplishments: They have empowered more than 10 million people with
access to safe water and sanitation.

Water.Aid
In their ideal world, everyone and every place would have access to clean water and hygienic conditions. Their goal
is to improve access to clean water, sanitary facilities, and hygienic practices in order to alter the lives of the poorest
and most marginalized people. At WaterAid, their mission is to transform the lives of the people who have been left
furthest behind by improving access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene. With their partners and supporters, they
have made a huge difference over the last 40 years.

Accomplishments: 321,000 individuals in households, 148,000

students in classrooms, and 971,000 patients in medical facilities
now have access to safe water thanks to Water Aid. They
collaborated with governments to alter 14 national policies,
plans, or standards, and they helped 26 urban public utilities
manage their water services better. Additionally, they improved
management capabilities to provide 84 rural regions with clean
water, acceptable toilets, and good hygiene.
