B. Motivation (Engage)
Divide the students into two groups. Instruct them to read the story
entitled “My Thai Cat” and then let them answer the questions
What is an opinion?
What is comparing and contrasting?
Why do we need to compare and contrast things and
ideas?
D. Developing Mastery(Explain)
Let the students notice the similarities and differences between
the beliefs and traditions of Thailand and the Philippines by
reading and analyzing the following statements about the story
titled” My Thai Cat”
F. Evaluation
Ask the students to compare and contrast the statements in the
previous activity by writing three sentences expressing
comparison, and another three sentences expressing contrast.
Instruct them to use the appropriate transition signals.

Have the students think of the people they know who can be
regarded as heroes. Let them share their opinions to support their
choice of hero. Have them compare and contrast the traits of the
hero that they chose with the heroes mentioned in the text.
F. Evaluation
Ask the students to write their own opinion about educated Filipino
in the past and present based on what they have read in the
selection. Instruct them to use transitional signals and opinion-
marking signals in writing their opinion.
