 ASSIGNMENT QUESTION

PURPOSE

The purpose of this assignment is to enhance learners’ knowledge about representation

of data, hypothesis testing and statistical analysis.

REQUIREMENT

A cognitive psychologist conducted a study about the number of hours a person sleeps at
night and the number of letters the person remembers from a given task the next
morning. The results for twenty individuals studied are in Table 1 below. It was also
found that the average number of letters a normal person can remember is 17.

Based on Table 1 above:

(a) Illustrate the two variables given (separately) by means of a pictorial

representation as well as its measures of central tendency and measures of
dispersion.
(b) Build a hypothesis that should use a t-test analysis using the five steps of
hypothesis testing. Learners must complete steps 1-5 of hypothesis testing and
show calculations made. Report the results as a research article would.
(c) Draw a scatter plot of the data above and explain it.
(d) Calculate the correlation coefficient, r and interpret the value. Report the results
as a research article would.

TUJUAN

Tujuan tugasan ini adalah untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan pelajar tentang perwakilan
data, pengujian hipotesis dan analisis statistik.

KEPERLUAN

Seorang ahli psikologi kognitif menjalankan satu kajian mengenai bilangan jam seseorang
tidur pada waktu malam dan bilangan abjad yang boleh diingat daripada satu tugasan
pada keesokan hari. Keputusan untuk dua puluh individu yang dikaji adalah dalam Jadual
1 di bawah. Didapati juga purata bilangan abjad yang boleh diingati adalah 17.
