COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Theo 4 Church History II, Reformation and Modern Church, 3 units – This class will present an
overview of the history of the Church from the dawn of the Reformation (1517) to present. Its purpose is to
enable the student to develop his/her skills in using church history to understand his/her theological tradition
and the growth of the Church in Asia.
COURSE AIMS:
A. The student will be able to identify the major individuals and events that shaped the development of the
theology, institutions, movements, and conflicts of the Reformation and modern church.
o What was the historical factors which contributed to the development of my own theological
tradition?
o What lessons can be learned from the past successes and failures of the Church?
o Who are some of the great persons in Church History that I should become more acquainted with?
C. The student will develop skills in using Church History as a witness to God’s character and source in
doing theology

RESPONSIBILITIES
Each student is required to read the modular notes & textbook in this class. The students should submit 5
Reflection Papers in 2-page double-spaced about the notes or the textbook they have read. This should be
computerized, 12 font Times Roman, and in A4 bond paper.
This will show if the students have read the given topic for the day in the module reading requirements. This
will also prepare the students for the final exam as scheduled. Sample format will be given on the first day
of the class.
