Post – Secondary Life PLAN A:

MY PLAN: going to college for cosmetology Name: Nataly Bui

My Plan A:
Consider: -I enjoy doing work in the beauty industry such as nails, hair, lashes
❏ What do you enjoy? etc.
❏ What sort of lifestyle do you -I want a lifestyle where I can be my own boss and have flexibility
want? when it comes to working and not working for a straight long amount
❏ What are you good at? of time.
-I am good at using my hands to do things rather than using my
brain.

Career Info that I have

discovered… -Upsides for nails is I am doing what I like and enjoy to do and I can
Consider: have flexibility and be my own boss.
❏ Upsides/downsides of job -downsides is in the first few months or years of doing this job there
❏ Job duties/ responsibilities won't be a lot of profit and it can cost a lot of money to get started.
❏ Salary range Money is also not always guaranteed with this job.
❏ Future outlook -my duties for this job is just doing nails every day or if I'm doing
❏ Lifestyle factors other things like lashes or hair it would just also be doing those
❏ Advancement opportunities things.
-the salary for nail techs if you were to work in a salon is $18.30 per
hour but if its home based or if you have your own salon that could
look a lot different depending on your prices or how well you salon
does.
-In the future I would first like to go to school for a few months and
get my certificate while maybe working at a salon on the side, after
that I would like to do my own home business where I have my own
clients and prices. After that I plan to eventually open a salon, either
a nail salon or a salon with a variety of things depending on if i learn
to do lashes, eyebrows and hair.
-doing this on a daily basis can get repetitive if I don't have the right
time management and doing it for long periods of time could cause
physical problems in my arms, hands or back.
-advancement opportunities could be going from working at a salon
to opening up or own, or working at a salon to doing you own
business or it could be having your own business at home to opening
up your own shop.

Three employability skills I 1. Patience is needed to be a nail tech because it takes a lot of time.
possess that will support my
plan:

Consider: 2. Creativity with styles and designs is also needed because that is
❏ Soft and hard Skills required the bulk of doing nails.
for position
❏ Personal attributes

3. Social skills and communication is needed when doing a clients

nails because you may need to talk to them for long periods of time.

Education needed to pursue my

plan: A certification of any type is needed as long as it shows that you
have studied to do nails and you know how to do them. Typically
Consider: going to college to study for it is ideal but some people may go to
❏ Courses/training/ certificates private teachers to learn and get a certificate if their financial
needed situation is not good.
❏ Post-secondary
requirements
